The last kiss didn't make sense except as River's last kiss, since she obviously didn't know it was his first until he said so. It was a perfectly natural thing for her to do, which implies she's done it many times before (in the future, if you get my drift).

But that makes no sense either, how could she know it was there last kiss when she didn't know she was going to die at the library? Hell she probably didn't even know she was going to the library?

Yes, I get what you mean, it's just the horrified look on her face when she realised it was the first time he'd kissed her (well been kissed by her!)

Makes you wonder if there's a lot of snogging on the horizon. Speaking personally, I prefer a sexy Doctor to an asexual one. Since the Time Lords clearly reproduced originally and still had sexes, I'm guessing the asexuality thing is because the shows were originally much more restricted in what could and couldn't be put in a family show.

Well I guess telly in general was at times. It's an amusing dichotomy, you make the show quite asexual, yet you then have Jo/Leela etc running around in skimpy costumes!

Good up until the inane ending. I can't believe that RTD gets criticized for going all in on his finales, but nobody bats an eye when SM does it.
Have you actually read the thread? There's been enough eye-batting to blow out the candles on a 900-year birthday cake.

Uh, yeah. Notice that 90% of the votes on this episode were in great favor of the episode. What were they like for RTD's finales?

While I have really enjoyed the flirting and innuendo between the Doctor and River, I am pretty sure that I would not enjoy the show as much if we see these two (or the Doctor and anyone else) as forming a completely fleshed out (so to speak!), ongoing romantic relationship. I think it would greatly change the feel of the show.

I never liked "Cheers" as much once Sam & Diane got together, as the tension between them before they were together was more interesting to watch. I would prefer that this not become a focus of Doctor Who. We'll see!....

My thought was more along the lines of, why does River end up using the name given to her by some random forest dwellers for the rest of her life, rather than the one given to her by her parents? Just so that the viewers won't know who she is?

So that the Doctor, Amy and Rory won't know who she is. Just imagine if she'd told him from the start...

Silence in the Library;

The 10th Doctor: "Who are you?"

River: "I'm the child of two of your future companions, conceived in the TARDIS and therefore augmented with Time Lord abilities from the vortex. My pregnant mother will be kidnapped, replaced by a doppelgänger and forced to give birth under horrifying circumstances, and I will then be taken and brought up to use as a weapon against you. All because the inhabitants of the Gamma Forest see you as the ultimate warrior and think it'll be handy to have a Time Lord they can use for their own ends. My mother will have her life turned upside down, and her child taken away, just because you happen to crash land in her garden when she was a little girl, and because you've become the thing you hate the most... You inspire such hatred and fear in some people that the're willing to go to any lengths to stop you."

The Doctor: What?! That's terrible!

River: I know, sweetie. But you have to let it happen, or I will never exist.

No, better to just assume an alias and keep schtum.

Because she wasn't raised by her parents and was possibly and likely raised in the forest for she seems to have some knowledge of them and their language and from the looks of things the Doctor will be there in future and he will be running.

Actually, come to think of it, wasn't "Forest of the Dead" the first time the Doctor really started trading on his own reputation? He bluffed his way through "The Christmas Invasion," but he didn't call back to any of his prior exploits to back up his threats, and the Daleks were always afraid of him, but that's because of they knew him. I think "Forest" was when he started threatening bad guys and telling them to consider what he's done to other people before they come at him.

And yeah, while there are obvious drawbacks to being seen as the baddest mother in time and space, there are definite benefits, too. If he'd done it in "Human Nature," for instance, it would've saved a lot of lives.

How about this instead: Before she was ever born, her parents knew her as River Song. When she was born, they named her Melody Pond. However, once they found out why River Song was called River Song, they just started calling Melody by that name since that's the name she's going to end up being known by.

No need for River to be raised by any Gamma Forest people. AFAIAC the Gamma Forest people are probably over with now.

I have a question.

What is the cliffhanger that is being talked about in this thread?

I read on the Internet what is a cliffhanger, and it says: "An ending or stopping point calculated to leave a story unresolved, in order to create suspense", but I can't seem to figure out which is the cliffhanger in this episode?

The Doctor leaves his friends behind to take off and find their child and the audience doesn't know what happens after that.

Was that post a product of Herman's intellect, lust, neuroses or feminine side?:):techman:

What I'm hoping is that all this River/Doctor stuff happens off-screen and the Doctor visits Amy and Rory again, from their perspective only a few days/weeks later, but it's been like 200 years for him and the whole River/Doctor romance is over or at least shoved into the background. The fan faction and novels can fill up all that gap.

Then we can get back to proper adventuring without so much interpersonal drama. I think I'm about ready for Amy to go. Bring on a new companion! Maybe a brunette this time. OOh! I know. How about a brunette half-asian white girl from the south. I might know someone! ;-)
