What would you name your Runabout?

So many of the world's largest rivers chosen, and we never saw an Amazon or a Mississippi.

I'd take a Mississippi...

USS Brazos, I should make a joke here about its registry number getting switched with the USS Colorado. (hint: the history of Texas river names)

USS Darling

Its motto would be : "Made a note in my diary on the way here. Simply reads...'Bugger'."

The USS San Marcos, for the river that runs right through the middle of San Marcos, Texas, one of my favorite towns ever.

Styx (but it would be secretly named after the rock band, not the river.) :)

I wonder if ALL runabouts have to be named after rivers, or if that was just the theme the ones at DS9 used. Picard and company also used a runabout once, but we never learned the name.

My non-river name would be Rocinanté. :)

The general idea is that ships of a certain class usually follow a "name theme" established by the first vessel (in this case, the USS Danube), though the shows haven't always followed that.

I'm not sure that's even true of most ships. Even the original Constitutions played a little loose. On the other hand, it was very clear that the Danubes, at least the ones at DS9, did have a theme.

Right, that's why I said it was just a general idea and not really a hard-and-fast rule. It's true that it seems most Starfleet ships just had random names.

When, I watched the show, I always hoped that any new new runabout would be called the Colorado. Why wouldn't you choose the river that carved the Grand Canyon? :)

Easy answer: USS Po.

From the Po river in Northen Italy (not Po the Kung Fu Panda). Or could be even more parochial and choose either USS Dora Riparia (from the Dora Riparia river in Piedmont), or USS Reno (from the Reno river in Emilia, not Reno, Nevada).

USS Westbourne.

On river names, my understanding was that because class of ships was Danube, individual ship names followed river-naming pattern. To best of knowledge there wasn't actually a USS Danube. But I'm probably wrong :)

'cause then they wouldn't be able to blow that fucker up while keepin' the Rio Grande safe for the seven seasons...it could have torn the scifi geeks/nature lovers apart in this country!
