Red Faction: Origins - Examiner.com: Advance Review - Premieres Jun 4 '11 onSyfy

1 minute trailer here:

It's supposed to be a backdoor pilot to a TV series.

other thread here on the gaming forum:
Red Faction movie in the works, possible TV series

official site:

there is no additional video there.

looks interesting. some ok VFX, some not so good.
Reminds me of Starship Troopers from that trailer.

I loved the first video game, and always imagined a version of it with an expanded story and more world-building. Not sure whether I like that this seems to take place during some of the less stellar entries in the series.

I'm up for a kick-ass story about Mars, sure. :bolian: I don't hold Brian Smith responsible for the general suckitude of SGU. Nice to see Kate Vernon in something again. She doesn't play his mom, does she?

I don't know anything about the video game or that "Red Faction" refers to Mars, the Red Planet (I thought it was about Commies.) :rommie:

Interesting to see Devon Graye (teenage Dexter Morgan) in the cast. What kind of character is Leo?

Is Lyra (the little sister) supposed to be somewhat creepy? Tamzin Merchant played Catherine Howard in The Tudors and there seemed to be some kind of creepy blank-eyed weirdness about her. Kind of annoying in that context, but it could work to her advantage in sci fi.

I hope this show turns out to be as good as the trailer makes it look, and goes to series.

I get that it's for budgetary reasons, but it looks like the surface has been sufficiently terraformed to breathe without aid in this? I miss the kickass hazardous environment armor and helmet.

I loved the first game in the series, was cold on the second one (it's not the same if it's not on Mars), and thought the third was OK. I'll probably check this out.

Entertainment Weekly gave it a mixed review, but thought it was a cut above the usual Syfy tv-movie.

They should shoot the show in Utah. I can't see how in heck they can make Bulgaria look anything remotely like Mars, even a "terraformed" Mars. I guess it's just another annoying aspect of skiffy's cheap-ass approach. Is Utah really so much more expensive than Bulgaria? Sheesh.

I know, i just wanted to know if its out by now or not.

Nope, it airs June 4 - next Sat night. My DVR is all set. :)

You haven't been to Bulgaria, then.

Nothing screams "post-apocalyptic wasteland" more, trust me. I'm surprised they didn't require environmental suits just for filming there.
