I'm not obsessively in love with it, like many others, but, I definitely do enjoy watching Firefly and I am glad I own it.

And, you will find each episode is available there, full episode for Free, (apparently through Hulu?), though you have to deal with commercials and no FF or Pause Button. Check out the first episode or two for free, and then decide if you want to stop, keep going on IMDB, or rent/Buy the DVDs, or any other option I may have neglected to mention.
Oh, wait...That list is in airing order, not proper episode order, can someone direct the OP to the proper order to see them in?

Really like the characters, really like the one liners.
Hate the basic science got wrong (multiple planets arouind one star? How big istheir Goldilocks Zone? Seriously?) Don't much like the Reapers reveals in the movie.
Summer GLau's fight scene in that movie is very cool, all the more because the bulk of it is left to our imagination.
And the little homages in Castle (Halloween costume, speaking Chinese) are hilarious.
As others have said, YMMV.

Again, the science in the show is no worse than Star Trek or Galactica. Maybe it should be getting better after all these decades?
Meh. As long as it's generally consistent within the confines of the show, I don't care what the science is like.
It's a fun show, and yes, worth your time.

Especially when shows get as far out as Star Trek or Farscape - for example - and incident revolves around things like FTL flight, teleportation, aliens and energy guns of various sorts the degree to which real science is relevant most of the time is negligible. I suppose the possible incongruities of things like planetary orbits, etc are a little more obvious with a show which restricts the action and technology to the degree that Firefly does
One thing I found interesting is that the show never made it clear they were in one planetary system - at least I didn't get that until it was spelled out in the film - so I assumed they had some kind of slow ftl and were going between nearby systems.
I love StarTrek DS9 was the best IMO, Loved Battle Star, Star Gate is ok but I hated Babylon 5 with a Passion.

Apparently they'd still fail to notice that Firefly is one word.
Just go to the IMDB link I posted and check a couple episodes out, it's free s, you've got nothing to lose.
I have the same likes on shows as you mention, though I adore Babylon 5. The overt Western theme (Or the Whedon style) is probably the make and break, if you can't stand Westerns, Firefly probably isn't for you, if you like them or love them, you should like Firefly
as a aside, Just curious, did you get past season 1 of Babylon 5?
I think you would think it is at least ok, it is more "fun" then "serious", If your not enjoying it by Shindig, then just watch serenity and be done with it....
(I watched Serenity Prior to watching firefly, and Serenity is just a good movie.)
