What sci-fi TV series have gotten TV-MA ratings by any cable channels? (Obviously we wouldn't have seen TV-MA on network television).

A TV-MA rating means the program may be unsuitable for those below 17.

the pilot episode of the CBS police drama Brooklyn South made this series the first network TV series to display the rating.

I started this thread since in the past I started a couple of threads about Trek series with TV-14 ratings in the USA after the TV Parental Guidelines system went into effect in January 1997 .

VOY - most violent episodes (& TV Parental Guidelines rating system)
ENT - most violent episodes (& TV Parental Guidelines rating system)

I'm not talking about TV series that were rated TV-14 in the U.S. but sci-fi series with episodes actually rated TV-MA.

First episode - TV pilot of Stargate SG-1 had full frontial nudity by one character (Jackson's wife) and a topless scene by another (female Air Force Sergent).

As I recall, the latter isn't full topless, just wearing a translucent robe.

I was wondering if the TV ratings system even existed when SG-1 premiered, but I checked, and apparently it was instituted about 8 months before the show's debut.

Of course, Showtime's earlier show from some of the same producers, the revival of The Outer Limits, frequently had nudity and sexual content (as a lot of premium-cable shows do for no other reason than to say "Hey, look, we're on premium cable!"). SG-1 had it once due to network fiat, but the producers insisted on avoiding it thereafter -- and the nudity is gone from the recut version of the pilot that was released on DVD a couple of years ago.

Dunno, I would imagine so, that VChip has gotta know what's looking for

The pilot episode of Stargate SG1 had nudity (aired on Showtime), so that episode/movie would probably have been rated PG-MA. The rest of the series did not have that.

The short-lived BLADE tv show had occasional nudity.

In addition to the series mentioned above, there was also a short-lived Total Recall series that had occasional nudity. The first season of the syndicated Lost World series had nudity, but that was, sadly, cut for American TV, and I don't think the full version is available on DVD.

MASTERS OF HORROR also had occasional nudity, although syfy blurs it out when they rerun it.

Ah, that reminds me. There was an old anthology series on HBO (I think) back in the 80s called The Hitchhiker that had nudity. I'm not sure if that's on DVD. I'll have to check. It was very entertaining in a lurid, EC-ish way.

Which also reminds me: The Tales From The Crypt series had nudity.

By the sounds of things Torchwood Season 4 sounds like it stands a good chance of getting an MA rating. Previous seasons had individual episodes that probably rated MA, but most were probably more TV-14.

^That is my biggest fear with this move to Starz, that they'll Spartacusize it and make it unnecissarily explicit. And I'm saying this as someone who has enjoyed Spartacus, but IMO Torchwood works fine just the way it.

I think there's some guesses as to what would/could have been rated TV-MA as opposed to which series actually have been rated TV-MA.

I'm sure Lexx uncut could get a TV-MA but I don't think as aired on Sci-Fi it ever exceeded TV-14 and the first season which only aired on Showtime actually had an MPAA rating of "R".

Odyssey 5 had MA ratings every week for sex and drugs and "The fucking planet fucking explodes". Damn you Showtime.

Invasion on ABC I think got a MA rating because one episode deals with people getting shot in the head and they show it.
