1/350 TOS Enterprise is a go!!!

I'm just about to start buidling the refit and I'm dreading it as I've never built anything this complex before. I got the lighting kit too. Stage one was check that the lights work, stage 2 is drill the holes - haven't summoned up the courage for stage 2 yet! How many layers of undercoat do people receommend to stop light bleed? I was thinking 2 matt black and 2 matt white on the inside plus 2 matt white and one pearlescent on the outside.
 
If the flyer they handed out is any indication, the "deluxe" edition will only be a limited run (1701 copies!) and will include, depending on how quickly you get in the pre-order queue, a "1701 Club" T-shirt in first gold, then blue, then red (:lol:); I'll have to wait until I get home to get more details from the flyer. Once those are sold, I don't think there will be anything other than the standard $100 kit available.

I spoke with one of the Round 2 guys at the show, and he said that it would definitely have the full hangar deck. It'll be interesting to see how quickly the garage market provides a bridge kit, and how it will be oriented ;). I wonder if the various pilot editions will also address the changes in the upper domes, along with the changes in the nacelles that they're already talking about.

I'll see what I can do when I get home (give me a chance to try out the new scanner, too ... ;) ).

You can reserve one of the first 1,701 Premiere Edition kits. And you don't pay anything until the kits are ready to ship. I reserved mine already last night. Once you sign up then you're sent a confirmation email and your name is on the list.

Looks like a nice kit. Probably buy a couple myself once they go retail. Still holding out hope for the large-scale Akira that was mentioned a couple years back, though. :(
 
Pretty sure the Akira's dead. PL is being VERY paranoid about profit & loss, which is why 99% of their releases are RE-releases of old kits. Minimal investment, maximum gain.

There's also the reality of the economy right now - hobbies and luxuries are one of the first things to get cut when people are on a tight budget. They're not going to waste money on new toolings of one-shot background ships right now - they're going to go with something tried and true.

This is exactly the kind of clarification we all need.

I'm still glad I reserved a Premiere Edition because I'm seriously thinking of building a 1st pilot version. That said I'm sure there'll be aftermarket conversion parts later made available by either Round 2 or a third party for the Standard Edition. All things considered it would all probably come out to the same anyway. As far as the lighting goes I'll see how much that goes for and then decide.

If they can't make the grid lines really fine then I, too, would rather they leave them off and then individuals can add them in their own way if they wish.

-sigh- I suspect you're right. A shame - was really looking forward to that one.
 
Let's hope the motor assembly is not prone to the "seizing" issues that plagued several buyers of the Master Replicas miniature.

(In case some reading this are wondering, several of the "museum quality" models sold by Master Replicas had the one or even both of the motor assemblies that spin the "blades" within the nacelle domes eventually fail. As constructed, there was no practical way to access the motor without destroying the paint job. Of the cases reported, it appeared the port nacelle suffered this failure more than the starboard pod.

So far, thank the merciful Mogg, my ship has not suffered this tragedy. Then again, I power the miniature for maybe 30 second every month or so. (Of course, some may reasonable debate I should run it longer to avoid the motors "freezing".)
