TWO years since STXI was released...

StarTrek1701

Commodore
Commodore
...and the talking points were:

"It revitalized Star Trek for a new generation!"

"It was a bold move! JJ Abrams is great!"

"$350 million! Star Trek's future is secured!"

"Paramount greenlit Star Trek 2 even before it left theaters!"

....and they still haven't finished the mufuking script yet.

Two years.

Get the fuck to it JJ Abrams / Roberto Orci and whoever the new 'Higher Authority" is of Trek now!

Yeah sorta surprising since in the back in the 90s/80s they kept them coming every two years. This summer should have been the year for a big adventure or at least this winter...

I'd rather they take their time and do it right rather than rush it merely to appease my sense of timing.

A wise man once said... "Good things are worth waiting for."

It's either in Star Trek or in the bible, look it up. :p

The Star Wars movies were all three years apart. The Batman movies are several years apart. This is pretty much standard procedure.

What's the rush?

My thoughts exactly. I would rather they take their time and develop a solid script and story then to just rush something on screen just to make some money.

Doesn't anyone feel like taking their time to finish the script will end up rushing the production though?

Technically, there is a boat to be missed, and it's in the summer of 2012.

Now, if they pushed back that date, then I think the whole "taking time to ensure a quality product" makes more sense.

Ummmmm... all of this whinging about the script and the date is really starting to get annoying... They already have the principal cast and probably some of the major secondary characters under contract... they have the Enterprise sets and digital models, and the Narada set, which was modular and could be configured into 4-6 different looks... they have enough of a script to be in soft-prep as Bob Orci has said at trekmovie.com about a month ago, so that means they are probably scouting locations and have feelers out for actors to play any new characters... hell,we knew that they were looking for someone to play a female Vulcan/Romulan last October: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/25/business/media/25ipad.html?_r=3& src=busln and http://www.endofshow.com/2010/10/26/asian-actress-for-star-treks-new-v ulcan/. Plus, ILM can do some post-production while the movie is still being filmed. As the first movie showed, these people know how to keep secrets, and so, unless you happen to know what the super-secret code name to "Corporate Headquarters II" is, you won't actually know what pre-production has already been done on it. . . and none of you complainers have proved to anyone that you actually know anything about making movies, while Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman, et. al. have, so, until they say they are changing the release date, then all of this hand-wringing seems premature...

And most of them sucked. So why should they try to recreate the old 2-year movie cycle?
TMP - 7 December 1979
(2.5 years)
TWoK - 4 June 1982
(2 years)
TSfS - 1 June 1984
(2.5 years)
TVH - 26 November 1986
(2.5 years)
TFF - 9 June 1989
(2.5 years)
TUC - 6 December 1991
(3 years)
GEN - 18 November 1994
(2 years)
FC - 22 November 1996
(2 years)
INS - 11 December 1998
(4 years)
NEM - 13 December 2002
The old 2-year cycle which in fact works out over the span of the first ten movies to two and a half years per movie, putting the next one only six months over the average?

Yeah, I'd like to see that movie, too, but I'm not really concerned at this point about the Bad Robot crew running too far behind schedule. There's plenty of time left.

Well, JJ Abrams was more of focused on Super 8... no worries there, it's better than the 28 year gap between Tron and Tron: Legacy :)

So why isn't Paramount getting their asses together?? Don't know why it feels like Superman Returns all over again :(

Maybe because Abrams, Orci, et al, have more going on in their careers than just Star Trek? Most of the major players involved in ST09 have been very busy since then.

No. The film is being written is likely wrapping up. Not sure what you think Paramount is supposed to do.

Hanging in there for the wait doesn't always pay off, depending on your perspective.

Almost 20 years after Return of the Jedi came...The Phantom Menace. Then a three year gap, to make sure the quality of the production is giving ample time to develop, and we get Attack of the Clones.

Taking the time to do it right! :techman::rofl:

Interesting topic: sequels a very long time in the making. So far in this thread we have mentioned Tron: Legacy, Psycho II, and The Phantom Menace.

I'll add The Godfather Book III, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Two Jakes, The Evening Star, The Sum of All Fears, and Live Free or Die Hard.

It appears to be a consistent theme that they don't live up to the originals.

Toy Story 3 is the one exception that comes to mind.
