My cat tries that, but I just ignore her until she gives up.
A cat that gives up? Does such a thing exist?

my cat owned our house. she would often take over places where people sat for her sleeping place. she would often jump on my bed, stand behind my chair, meow at me, bat me with her paws and if i ignored her, climb over my shoulder and then sit on my stomach (i tend to slouch in my chair) or she'd stand on my stomach and headbutt the keyboard drawer in in order to sit on my lap. if i tried sitting up straighter, pulling the keyboard drawer out and using the keyboard, she'd often headbutt my arm until i gave up and stopped trying to use the keyboard.
in the last couple of months before she died, she took to sleeping in one of the bedroom windows of my sisters' room and after half an hour of me being on my PC, she would jump down, hare out of the room, along the landing, crash through my door, leap on my bed and then get on my lap, wash and then go to sleep. i'd wind up sitting perpendicular to my desk, with my feet on the end of the bed so she could stretch out more.
it's evenings like this, on the PC, that i miss her the most...![]()

No...or rare. More...can't be arsed.
K'Ehleyr...my only advice re: dominant cats (having dealt with with pet Siamese and Burmese - my two favorite and gorgeous but most spoilt breeds - SHOW THEM WHO'S IN CHARGE)
That reminds me of my Boris. ^ You forget my Lord Nasat, that we have our faithful army of Dogs that shall ably fight along side us againist the feline menace. The alliance of wolves and ape will not fall!!
Cats have never forgotten being worshiped as gods in ancient Egypt.

We have a rule in our household that even the cats understand. The rule is whoever has been in this family the longest is the top person/cat. If someone moves out and then comes back home again they go to the bottom of the list. The list as it now stand
Me (person)
Miss Chicken (cat)
Spider (cat)
Georgy (cat)
Adam (person)
Marcus (person).
This means I have an absolute right to remove a cat from my bed, chair and tell them off when they do anything I consider naughty. It also means I can relegate feeding the cats, cleaning up after the cats to those that are lower than them i.e. Adam and Marcus.
Miss Chicken is allowed to order the two boy cats around and I will side with her when she does.
For quite a while Georgy was on the bottom on the list but has edged his way up. He now understands that he can order Adam and Marcus to feed him but if he wants me to feed him he must wait until I feel like doing it.
I notice the cats are consolidating power near the apex, Miss Chicken; other than yourself, humanity isn't faring to well in the hierarchy. Is there hope for us two-legged ones or will our four/three-legged friends achieve full domination?
PS: What happens if you go on holiday; do you relinquish authority to Miss Chicken the cat and then start from the bottom, or does that not count as leaving?![]()

True about their superiority complex.
Why do we love them so much?
If they were a human we would you think of them as;
- self centered
- vain
- greedy
- having no respect for clean bed linen (especially white)
- having no respect for correspondance you've just printed out and do not really have to be embossed with a muddy paw, as I'm sure my signiture and bank details will do.
- lazy (ok I'm jealous about that one)
- freeloaders ~ what is his purpose?

But Squeak refuses to listen.
I can rule the humans ~ but not the cat.
Again I wish I'd just bought a goldfish.

Because they're furry, they purr when you pet them, and they're like little children you just want to protect.
I say this as a dog person who also loves kittehs.

As RJ said, they were worshipped as gods (whereas goldfish/koi necessarily weren't). Previous g/fs have all given due honor to Bastet (is there a pattern here?). My Burmese does what wishes but I do not feel "bullied". Yes, if I'm honest he has upper hand (emotionally) but I do express to him that he is not divine or irreplaceable. Especially with a wolf.
As revenge for my parents going on vacation, ours has decided to wake me up at 5:30 every morning. (I am a morning person, but 5:30 is hardly morning.)
Currently she is prowling around, intermittently asking to go out even though several hours ago when I let her out she demanded to come back in, and occasionally sitting just out of arms' reach.
If she was a person, she would be that annoying kid in the store who yells "Mom!" five million times, is ignored, and proceeds to destroy the pyramid display of soup cans.

If only my parents were able to pronounce it, that would have been her name...
Befitting her human companion, I daresay. That's one sexy feline Iggi!
So are Jinx's but she still runs. He's a filthy, mangy beast, but inside his breast beats the heart of a warrior!![]()
Sorry for DP but I just saw this...
Shameless, that's lovely.
Inside Sir Squeak's breast beats the heart of a poet. Maybe vainglorious, lazy and the cat with the most unlike-cat abilities, but caring and with a certain charm about him.
He reminds me of Leslie Phillips

Ok ~ new thing...

ETA @ Jinx ~ I would but Squeak's claws are pretty sharp![]()
