NYT Times prints "nerdiest correction ever"

I have to wonder how many people reading the articles even knew what they were talking about.

After all, there hasn't been a Hobbit movie yet, which leave those of us who have read the book to understand.

Oh, I wish they would print the email that alerted the ombudsman of the mistake. I bet it was chock full of winning.

Didn't they call the sword Sting in "Fellowship" when it was passed to Frodo?

Also, I work as a copy editor for a newspaper and there are a lot of times when I'm reading something that I'm not quite sure of small details like that - I have to rely on the fact that the reporter has done their due diligence to get facts and names correct.

I work for a printer and when I’m typesetting and proofreading copy, if there’s something that’s factually questionable, I’ll take the moment to Google it. If there’s something I know is wrong, I’ll call it to the customer’s attention.

“NNC,” indeed!

Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E were in fact, the first of the Galaxy Class models and were under the command of Captain Picard

The Enterprise-E was Sovereign Class. If these people just used memory alpha as a reference they wouldn't have these kinds of errors.

I think, given the number of errors in that article, that they're purposely messing with trek fans.

Speaking of Star Trek-related errors, in Roger Ebert's review of Star Trek Generations, he calls the Enterprise-B captain a young Picard.

And let's not forget that obviously the USS Galaxy was the first of the Galaxy Class starships anyway... I haven't seen this many errors in a line of text since... well... last time I wrote a block of code.
