Jewish newspaper removes Hillary Clinton from White House photo

It has become the defining image of the strike against Osama bin Laden: a group of top White House officials anxiously watching coverage of the assault on his compound from the Situation Room.
But Hillary Clinton appears to have pulled off a disappearing act worthy of the terrorist leader himself in an edited copy of the photograph published in an ultra-orthodox Jewish newspaper in New York last week.
The Hasidic newspaper, Der Tzitung (The Time), photoshopped out two women who featured in the image released by the White House - Clinton, the US Secretary of state, and counter-terrorism analyst Audrey Tomasen.
The Brooklyn-based newspaper, which is written in Yiddish, is believed to have removed the women because of issues regarding female modesty.
According to the New York-based newspaper Jewish Week, which has picked up the story, Der Tzitung "will not intentionally include any images of women in the paper because it could be considered sexually suggestive.
However Rabbi Jason Miller, writing in the Jewish Week, said he was at a loss to explain how Clinton, who is pictured in a long-sleeved suit with her hand over her mouth, was being immodest.
"I'm not sure how Der Tzitung determined this was a racy photo. Perhaps they just don't like the idea of a woman with that much political power," he wrote.

That's just weird. And very sexist.

It's not new. They've photoshopped away the female Israeli cabinet members before.

The WH/Feds have far better things to do than knock these dumbasses around. What I'd like to see is widespread condemnation of this from the American Jewish community.

According to CNN, the paper said, "Because of laws of modesty, we are not allowed to publish pictures of women, and we regret if this gives an impression of disparaging women, which is certainly never our intention."

No, not disparaging at all. It's their way of showing women's equality.

Would be something for that burqa banning thread. Some religions simply view things differently. Gotta respect that. ;)

"Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (not pictured) was out making Obama a sammich at the time of this photo...".

Ironic, that an orthodox Jewish newspaper is practicing methods which were commonly used in Stalinist Russia for 'editing' history... :wtf:

So you're the blond dude here? ;)

It's dispiriting, but not ironic in the slightest; Stalinist authoritarianism was a direct spiritual continuation of Russia's theocratic monarchy, with "Papa Joe" swapped in for the "Holy Father" and "Senior Party Members" for "priests". The system was in large part based on Christian-invented mechanisms, which were in turn inspired by... Jewish monotheism.

But that theocratic monarchy was not, in fact, Jewish. Jews were an oppressed minority even in the Russia of the tsars, and obviously also under Stalin, and now a Jewish newspaper is using the very same methods? Like I said: how ironic.

D'oh, got me there. You're right; ironic indeed. Knew I was missing some part of all this... :p
