THOR: Grading, Discussion, Review **SPOILERS***

They don't want to see Anthony Hopkins after some chianti - they really, really don't.

 

I don't know, has Harry Knowles got any acting experience?

^ I thought this was telling:

Idiot doesn't even know that GL has nothing to do with The Avengers and is from a different studio and stable.

 

He's appeared as a background extra more than a few times, I think the first for him was The Faculty.

But the dude can't stand up for long - every time I've seen him in person, he's been in a wheelchair.

 

^ Yeah, he has awful spinal and leg problems not helped by his weight (IIRC he started the website when laid up as a result). He writes about it quite a bit on the site.

 

^^ I thought he had done gone the gastric bypass route last year or something, but haven't seen much about it since.

 

I caught that also.
When one sets out to hate a particular film or sub-genre then there is nothing the film can do to win over that person. I wonder if it was LonePirate from BoxOfficeMojo who summitted that review?

Frankly I'm amazed when I get to the bottom that he gave it 1.5 stars. Seems high for such a waste of time as that reviewer was trying to drive home.

Edit: I left a comment on the Weekly Volcano review, guess I'll see if it gets approved and posted.

 

Speaking of Stevenson, anyone else wish that Kevin McKidd had played the blond warrior?

 

^ Nope. Nor do I wish Alexander Skarsgard did (though I did marvel at how they by-passed him for a long time). Hemsworth was perfect.

 

Be that as it may, Hemsworth was good, but Alexander Skaarsgard (Eric from True Blood) was on the list to play Thor too. Imagine if he had played Thor and his father Stellan played Odin. That would have been just as awesome.

 

^ That was one of the rumours at the time. Of course, Stellan ended up in the movie anyway, but I really don't think he would have been right for the role. You needed someone with Hopkins' bombast.

The thing about Alexander is that he has a sort of sly glint in his eye that is wrong for Thor. He'd almost be a good Loki, if they decided to make Loki more physically imposing.

 

No, no, not McKidd as Thor, McKidd as that blond Warriors Three dude.

 

^ Oh right. I forgot he was up for that - at one stage he was supposed to be in the running for Thor himself, as was James Bond, Daniel Craig.

It would have been a nice little Rome reunion if he and Stevenson had comprised two of the warriors three, wouldn't it?!

 

He was way better in this movie than in The Punisher Warzone, thats for sure.

 

^ And sticking with the HBO connection, in each he played opposite a star of The Wire (Dominic West in Punisher, Idris Elba in Thor).

 

Why would you think Loki gave a damn about Thor never seeing her again? He just didn't want Thor to break the bridge and was desperately throwing out a reason for him not to do it.

 

I remember and interview where some reporter asked Judy Dench why she did the Ridick movie. She asked in a very incredulous and snooty way. Lady Dench replied (as if talking to a slow child) "They paid me an obscene amount of money"

 

Burn.. but actually yes he was in the Faculty.
