Bye-Bye Ponds?

That's another reason I wish the actors stayed on the show longer. They only have 13 episodes, and there are usually 2 or 3 two-parters in there. So really, each companion only gets a 9 or 10 adventures and then is put to pasture. Lame.
Such is the show's blessing; such is its curse. It would be pleasantly surprising to see Gillen and Darvill stay on, as they make a great team with Smith (and Kingston). However, it looks like the current season will have a trajectory that takes them out of the show one way or another. Season 7 will no doubt have a different dynamic.

I just wish there weren't so many two-parters. If you only have 13 episodes, you should try to utilize them for as many stories as possible.

I am pretty sure the only reason they can afford thirteen episodes is because they do all the two-parters!

I think what they really need to do is change companions or Doctors in the middle of a season to shock everybody. It's too predictable when it happens in the season finale. The problem with the internet these days is that it's so hard to keep stuff like that a secret.

How would putting in the middle of a season keep it from getting out? By that I mean, it wouldn't be a shock cuz we'd still hear about it anyway.

I miss the days of not knowing who shot J.R. for roughly 26 weeks.

Um...that's exactly the point I was making. If the creators could somehow keep the secret and prevent the info from getting out, it would be awesome.

Yeah, it would be hard. But plenty of shows and movies manage to pull it off from time to time. BSG did it during Season 3 with Starbuck's death.

No, they didn't. I knew about it ahead of time and I was trying to avoid spoilers (sort of). Same thing for her return.

Well, then you did a really bad job of avoiding spoilers. I had no idea they were going to kill her off. I suspected that she would return (mostly because it was retarded to kill her off), but I think it was a surprise for a lot of people.

Even so, plenty of movies manage to keep spoilers pretty tight. JJ Abrams is awesome at it!

Avoiding spoilers would probably involve living under a rock....or in a cave....a cave with no internet access.

Still, I'd probably end up getting internet through my fillings or somesuch.

Again, that's the point I'm trying to make. It's up to the creators to prevent spoilers from getting out to the general public. It can be done. It happens.

I manage to avoid spoilers for EVERYTHING. Hell, I don't even know how Harry Potter ends! I'm waiting for the last movie to come out.

A good wizard comes along, saves the day and they all live happily ever after :p

It had previously been indicated that the split season thing is to become permanent (I forget where this was mentioned - one of the magazines like DWM)
That's what Moffat apparently wants -- spring season, autumn season, Christmas special. However, there's rumblings of a radically reconfigured format for future seasons, more akin to Sherlock or the Jonathan Creek specials, to deal with the budgetary realities.

so that means the July to March production schedule of the past doesn't really apply. They only JUST completed filming Season 6, a full month or so after they normally called it quits for the season.
They actually started later than usual last year -- September as I recall.

While I agree with StCoop's read of the situation -- the preponderance of the evidence is that Gillan and Darvill have left the program and are actively seeking other work -- I will admit that an October or November start for Who isn't impossible with the split schedule. Hell, it would probably be better for Moffat's sanity -- the second season of Sherlock is supposed to wrap in September, as I recall.

Why not just start focusing on the bloody scripts instead of the *U&(*&67ing effects. Could not care less about them.

Stop blowing it all on location shoots if money's a fecking problem.

You've got the wrong end of the stick - budget problems are going to be a problem going forward because of BBC cuts not because of how they have been currently spending the money.
