a question on dr.who animated series?

I was in barns and noble the other day checking out the british tv section and noticed a dr.who animated dvd. when did this series start and which dvd do I start with? all so is it worth watching never seen british cartoons?
The only one I've seen is An Alternate Doctor #8 (or #9?), Played by Richard E. Grant, called Scream of the Shalka, and it's very good. There's a couple David Tennant ones on Amazon.com, but, never seen them before
I suspect you're probably referring to The Infinite Quest or Dreamland. Both were special one-shot animated adventures.
Are yout talking about Infinite Quest with the 10th Doctor & Martha Jones?
If so its basically an animated episode, but be warned it first aired as part of CBBC show "Totally Doctor Who" so its cleary for kids, its a good enough story, but be warned it was created in 3-5 minute episodes, so its a very quick pace.
That said the animated TARDIS in the title sequence is fun.

As noted, The Infinite Quest was a special serial aired during Totally Doctor Who, a companion series that aired alongside Seasons 2 and 3 of the revival. Tony Head (Mr Finch from School Reunion/Giles from Buffy/Uther from Merlin) voices the villain in that.
Dreamland was a special serial that was made available via the BBC's Red Button service, if I recall correctly, and it takes place between The Waters of Mars and The End of Time (per its writer). It's notable for featuring Georgia Moffett (Jenny from the Doctor's Daughter and aka Mrs. David Tennant) voicing a one-off companion, and Lisa Barrowman of Big Finish's Bernice Summerfield series voicing an alien. The guy who played Nixon in the opening 2-parter of Series 6 also voiced a character in it.
Both are quite good. Infinite Quest gets dismissed because it was made for the kid's show, but it stands up well with regular episodes, just more extravagant - and it actually involves real alien planets rather than just Earth and Earth colonies. Dreamland has an interesting tie in with the Impossible Astronaut 2-parter and is a bit more adult-oriented, although the CG is a bit dodgy (Infinite Quest is traditional 2-D animation).
I'm hoping they do one with the Eleventh Doctor - I think it'd be fun to see Matt Smith rendered in animation.

I always thought that Jimmy was more of a companion than Cassie in the story.
Elements of Dreamland also appear in The Sara Jane Adventures, eg the Alliance of Shades and the Greys space-ship.
