Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) making film about Bin Laden's death

As reported late last year, director Kathryn Bigelow is set to re-team with The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal for an international thriller about a team of Black Ops soldiers. Now, Variety reveals that the script itself has been about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden and is being updated to incorporate yesterday's events into the climax of the film.

The project, which was being prepped to move forward before news broke of the successful United States top secret operation, was previously planned as a smaller-scale effort designed to hit before Bigelow's upcoming massive ensemble, Triple Frontier.

Wow, talk about fast. I hope we aren't flooded with too many Osama death films from Hollywood in the next few months.

Well, it was coincidentally a movie about the hunt for Bin Laden that was already in development. Now it just so happens that the ending needs to change since, you know, we found Bin Laden. It's like then ending of the Fever Pitch remake needing to change because the Red Sox won the World Series.

Do we know who Jeremy Renner is playing yet? :)

I'd see it. Has the potential to show off some badassery, and I've enjoyed Bigelow's previous films.

Yeah, Bigelow is the right person for this film.

That was the first thing that came to mind. Weird.

At the very least, I would hope that OBL himself is not depicted in the film. (Who the hell in their right mind would actually want to PLAY a scumbag like that?) They shouldn't even show him being shot. Show a closeup of the hand firing the weapon, then the sound effect, then fade to black - end of film.

I don't know about that.

Look at all the great, respected, actors who have played Hitler. Der Fuhrer's mammoth scumbaggery hasn't stopped people like Alec Guiness, Anthony Hopkins, Bruno Ganz and Ian McKellan from depicting him on film.

Indeed. Some actors might even relish the role - not because they want to be Osama bin Laden or the notoriety of it but because of the challenge it would represent.

This may be weird to mention, but any actor of the physical type to play Obama (tall, thin, light skinned with somewhat African features) would also be the same type to play Osama. So that could simplify casting. Just find two good actors in the same casting call and divvy up the parts.

Re: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) making film about Bin Laden's de

Somehow this makes Bigelow an attention whore.

Didn't take them long, did it?

Re: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) making film about Bin Laden's de

And beware of the backlash when it's going to be in 3D, and Bin Laden is played by a white bread.

Damn, I was hoping she'd direct Wolverine. (Or have they gotten a replacement on that movie now?)

Indeed:)and Alec Guiness even played him as a charming fellow:D
Bruno Ganz nailed the role, IMHO.
I doubt we see much Osama Bin Laden in the film,
unless we see things from his perspective also:shifty::wtf:(that would be brave, but doubt it will happen..)
I agree that Bigelow is a perfect director for this kind of film:bolian:

Seriously, films about Hitler got more and more authentic the more time passed. A movie about Bin Laden made today, especially a Hollywood movie, will just be Western world propaganda, nothing more.

Time needs to pass.
