Teeth Suck

Mr Silver

Does anyone have problems with their Teeth? I've got all sorts going on, when I was younger, my teeth came in overcrowded. My Dentist mentioned that in order to straighten them, he would have to remove a couple and fit a brace. At that stage of my life I was very wary of the Dentist, considering during a routine filling, I ended up with an Abcess (for those of you who have had one, you'll know how painful it really is) and from then on in, I only visited the Dentist if it was absolutely necessary.

As a result of these problems and just general carelessness (where I went a whole year sometimes without brushing...), my Teeth are almost fucked. Despite my lack of care, i'm lucky that my Teeth are repairable, i've started brushing on a daily basis and flossing (which is a painful process, with blood). Despite these measures, the damage is done, I regulary experience swollen gums and pain. My teeth are also prone to cavities and as a result i'm left with incredibly sensitive Teeth. Hopefully I can get them back to a resonable condition.

So anyone else got Dental problems?

I looked at your Location detail.

Nooooo!!

Captain M, you're going to provoke a whole load of jokes about British dental health, or supposed lack of it! ;)

On a serious note, my mother has quite a few problems with hers. The dentist seems to think she just has naturally weak teeth, because there's not much in her lifestyle that would really point to her having these problems. Strangely, the rest of the family (myself included) have always had very healthy teeth, no cares at all. But I sympathise, because my I know via my mother how much of an annoyance it is.

A year without brushing? A YEAR? I'm sorry, but I can't even comprehend that. I can't stand going 12 hours without brushing, let alone 12 months. I went three days without brushing once, but I was twelve and in a coma. The first thing I asked for when I awoke was my mommy, and the second was my toothbrush. Seriously. Fuzzy teeth are the worst.

I've had my share of tooth problems, thought. I did have braces as a kid and have a permanent retainer. I broke a tooth once. I am also having surgery in a couple weeks to remove my impacted and malformed wisdom teeth. One of them is 30% larger than a regular wisdom tooth and has three roots instead of two. It's impinging on a nerve in my jaw, and makes my lower lip go numb sometimes. I can't wait to get it out.

My teeth are somewhat crowded and crooked in the front as they are in everyone from my grandfather's family. I had braces to straighten them but after a while I stopped using my retainer and they reverted back to their natural, bunched up state.

I have very sensitive teeth so using sensitivity tooth paste is a life saver. Some are chipped a little because I grind them. I still have my wisdom teeth. I go to the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning. The way I describe my teeth makes them sound horrible but my dentist always says they're in good condition.

ETA: The only time they get flossed is when the dentist does it. :P

I remember being a kid at school and having special assemblies about teeth. They gave us this scary powder that they made us take home. We were supposed to put it in our mouths and then it showed us the areas of our teeth that had too much plaque (it made your mouth red or something). It hurt like heck, but it worked. Our schools tried to scare us into brushing our teeth and it worked!

They taught us to brush our teeth twice a day (morning and evening) and to floss everyday. I wasn't always good about flossing everyday, but after getting a few cavities after high school I learned my lesson. Electric toothbruses also help (supposed to be better than the manual brushes). Rinsing with flouride also helps.

I wasn't born with a good set of teeth, but through braces and retainers they look pretty good now. My favorite compliment was when someone told me that my teeth looked freakishly straight!

I brush thoroughly every day and use mouth rinse, but I don't floss. I can't seem to get the floss in between my teeth most of the time. Plus, for me, flossing my teeth is like nails on a chalkboard for everyone else. I can't stand more than a scant couple of seconds before it drives me nuts.

My teeth are ok. I had braces when I was a kid for slight alveolar prognatism, but there were of the removable kind and I only used them at night, so while slightly painful, they never impacted my social life.

I broke two teeth when I was younger falling from my bike, and as a consequence I have two artificial crowns: no biggies, but cold beverages give me problems sometimes.

My dental hygiene is pretty good: I brush thrice a day, floss every other day, and have a control check-up every six months. I haven't a had a problem in ten years, so I guess I'm doing fine.

A year without brushing? A YEAR? I'm sorry, but I can't even comprehend that.

Same here. How is that even possible? I think the most I've gone without brushing is 2 days when I've been out of town and forgot to pack my toothbrush. Even then, I try to "brush" them with my finger or swirl some mouthwash around or something!

Yeah, I don't think my teeth like me. I had to have braces for a few years when I was a kid. Before they could put in the braces, they had to pull eight teeth in two days. When the braces didn't work, I had to have jaw surgery when I was a senior. In junior high, I had an abscessed tooth that had to be removed surgically. In the last couple of years, I've had to have a couple of back teeth removed; turns out I have weird, twisted roots that make extraction difficult; the dentist was nearly in tears by the time he finished (and I wasn't feeling too good myself, but at least I got to have some Demerol).

Rip them all out and get implants. It will cost as much as a house but you can just live in a squat or a tent or something and SMILE SMILE SMILE.

If I could afford it, I'd be tempted; but I could never fit all my books in a tent. :rommie:

If RJ starts living in a book fort, I'm renaming him O.G. Readmore.

I brush once before I go to bed. That's all. Haven't been to a dentist in 20 years. The rest of me may be falling apart but my teeth are like granite (off-white granite), all 32 of them. Never had a filling. Never had an abscess. Got a tiny chip out of one of the top incisors from falling off my bike when I was 10.

You guys are giving me an idea for a Folk Tale-style story. :rommie:

Go for it!

I had sealants put on my teeth when I was in elementary school. They were invulnerable for about 5 years. I've never had a cavity, don't want one, but my teeth are generally healthy. I have been to the dentist 3 times in my life, so I know how you feel. It's nice to be orthodontically immortal. :D

If they made a film about my teeth it would be called Unbreakable.

It would open with them sitting on a train...

I had braces, so yay for straight teeth.

I brush twice a day, floss in the morning, and use mouthwash. My teeth are in pretty good shape.

I don't understand why everyone's so hesitant to floss. Haven't those icky pictures of gingivitis scared you into flossing? It takes about 1 minute to do, and if your gums bleed at first it's because they're NOT HEALTHY YET.
