There are 3 so-far-unannounced novels next year. Hopes/predictions?

So, if I'm keeping track, I think here are all of the announcements we have for next year:

- Vanguard 7: Storming Heaven, David Mack
- An ongoing-24th-century-continuity trilogy, probably TNG, David Mack
- Currently untitled TOS 5-year-mission story, Wardilmore
- TOS: The Rings Of Time, Greg Cox
- TOS-era sort-of-DTI: Forgotten History, Christopher L. Bennett
- Two novels, unknown details, David R. George III

That's nine. (Now that Rise Like Lions has been moved to the December book this year, that doesn't count.) What would you like to see for the other three?

Personally, I'm hoping for no more TOS books (since we already have three, and that's my least favorite era). I'm assuming DRG3's books are DS9, so I'm thinking that's covered. I'm expecting the next (last?) Romulan War book. I really want another Beyer Voyager novel. I'd like something weird, Lost-Era-y or otherwise unconventional (a la DTI, IFM, or Cast No Shadow from this year). Or the next Titan, perhaps?

What do you all think?

Re: There are 3 so-far-unannounced novels next year. Hopes/predictions

It's hard to say that I would want, since we only have guesses and speculation about which series/characters will be featured prominently in the above-mentioned books. Will Mack's trilogy be strictly TNG? Will Titan feature in, as well? Or the Aventine? And who knows what DRGIII's books will be.

We all know that the DS9-relaunch is in desperate need of attention. It's been sorely neglected and has had its universe dramatically shaken up with the five-year time jump. The series needs to resolve its many dangling plot threads so that it can properly establish a new status quo in the post-Destiny time frame and move forward.

I'd like to see more Titan. The last entry in the series, Seize the Fire, was just painful to read. It's really odd that the duo of Martin & Mangels wrote the first two Titan novels, both of which I really enjoyed. However, Martin's solo effort was nowhere near the quality that I'd expected. I am not sure who I would want to carry the Titan story forward next.

Children of the Storm hasn't even come out yet, but I would love to hear of another VOY novel in the works, particularly by Kirsten Beyer. She did amazing things with Full Circle and Unworthy. Granted, it might be fun to allow other authors join the VOY party, too.

Just something pure exploration for the sake of exploration, beyond the edge of the map stuff. Not too bothered which series it ends up, though I'd prefer it not be voyager I guess.

Since it sounds like most of the major series are covered, I'd like to see more experimental stuff like DTI or IFM.

With (seemingly) three TOS-era stories, it looks like we're getting a similar release strategy to the time around the last film.

that's easy: CLB. unfortunately, he's going to be a bit busy, so James Swallow or KRAD would be good. heck, i'd even like Bill Leisner to do one, i really liked LTP...

^ I'd add to the list Margaret Wander Bonanno, Ilsa J. Bick, or Geoffrey Thorne (though I know I loved his prior Titan entry more than most). Just as long as it isn't Michael A. Martin.

Honestly, I'm not aware of any editorial mandate here. Nobody told me to come up with a TOS book for 2012. This book has been been in the works for years; I first pitched it to Margaret at least two years ago, but she asked me to put it on hold and give her a nuTrek book instead. And then I got distracted with SEVEN DEADLY SINS and CSI and WAREHOUSE 13 and other projects.

It just happens that I'm finally getting around to writing the book now. It's not part of any deliberate "release strategy."

Another Voyager novel should definitely be added to the list.

Would like to see some ENT, but maybe not about the Romulan War. Some other author should get the opportunity to write for this era.

If Titan doesn't feature in any of the novels already on the list, add one for that.

And though I'm personally way behind on DS9, it should get some development.

Re: There are 3 so-far-unannounced novels next year. Hopes/predictions

I'd like an ENT Romulan War continuation. A Titan entry. A Voyager entry would make three.

Somebody other than Mike Martin to do ENT RW would be nice, just because he's been at it for a while and another author's perspective would be welcome.

Seize the Fire had the Titan crew acting in frankly painfully uncharacteristic ways. And what was up with that Terraforming thing anyway? We didn't even learn what civilization was behind the artifact. That novel intimated that it would have implications for current terraforming and recovery efforts, but that hasn't been taken up yet as far as I know.

I don't know why they decided to do a trilogy so soon after Destiny. Trilogies usually mean Something Big, how else you do keep a plot going over three linked novels?

I would also like to see a DS9 novel, either following on from Typhon Pact or set in the 'lost years' of DS9.

Re: There are 3 so-far-unannounced novels next year. Hopes/predictions

Not paying for anything with Micheal Martin's name on it. Unless it's accompanied by Andy Mangels.

Re: There are 3 so-far-unannounced novels next year. Hopes/predictions

Andy Mangels on this board said the two have split for good. The breakup was not amicable.

Actually, come to think of it, seeing as how all the books for next year are just starting to be written and Rise Like Lions is completely finished, I bet there's going to be a gap in January. And the MMPB reprint of Blind Man's Bluff needs to go somewhere, so I bet that's where it's going to be.

Not to nitpick, but Destiny was published at the end of 2008, and this new trilogy is slated for the end of 2012. That's a four-year span between trilogies. They're hardly tripping over each other. ;)

I'd like to see a dead tree version of the slings and arrows ebooks. I also wouldn't mind another myriad universe book and i'd really like another Gorkon book

Memory Beta already has Blinds Man Bluff listed for January. http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/2012

^ Well there you go.

So: TWO so-far-unannounced novels next year, then.
