Relationship Stories

Okay here's my unusual love story. I'm going out tonight so there will be little chance of jinxing.

I met mr. teacake on a mailing list 12 years ago. The first email I read from him I felt like something had exploded in my head.. I remember thinking, "who IS this person?" Oddly enough if I look at that email now it is utterly mundane, there is nothing striking about it at all. Anyway.. we fell in love over email. He lived on the other side of the world. Eventually we talked on the phone as well, we once had a 10 hour phone call. Over the next 4 and half years we had two visits, once for 9 days and once for 26 days. Then he flew over here for our third face to face, we were married that night at the airport. We have now been married for just over 7 years :)

Even though we only spent 35 days together before getting married we didn't seem to have any adjustments or surprises. We had exchanged over 35,000 emails during that time so we knew each other very well.

About a year ago I found out he hated licorice. I was like.. WHAT. How can there be something I don't know about you?!

teacake!! That is soo cute! :)

So who was it who lived in Australia originally? You or him?

And yeah, I get the licorice thing. I just found out a month ago that while Tomb Raider is one of his favorite movies, he can not stand Angelina Jolie at all.

Lots of positive ladies and negative gentlemen as usual :D

Isn't that the way of life though :D

I guarantee if my husband were asked what was the best story from our relationship so far he'd either say a: going to the 2007 spring Talladega race because it was on my birthday, April 29. Or b: when we were on opposing sides during the Colts vs Bears super bowl back in 2007.

He might get best memory though.

Back in '91, before I knew what the internet was, I had several pen-and-paper penfriends. My husband was one of them, but at first he was just a friend, like the others. I was still in Toronto, and when I was planning to visit family in the Netherlands in the summer of '92 he suggested that I try to make my way to England for a visit. I did, but had played it safe and had enough money on me to make a quick getaway in case he turned out to be some kind of psychopath, but it turned out to be love at first sight. It's a good thing we were writing to each other for almost a year as he was very shy at the time and I probably wouldn't have given him a second glance had we not been writing for so long, because he was chatty and friendly in his letters. We both made several trips between Canada and England, and in '95 I moved to England and we were married. We've had some rough moments but 3 kids and almost 16 years later it's been worth it.

Teacake, I know what you mean about having an argument with your husband as soon as you've praised him online. The same stupid thing happens to us.

I absolutely LOVE hearing the 'met online' stories! They really are so wonderful. It gives me great hope in the internet!!

Teacake i sooo get what you mean about praising and then arguing. It's always that way!!!!

Goji, i think your story is WONDERFUL!

How i met my husband: i was in a band. He was in a band. My band was breaking up. His band was dumping their female singer. My agent was his agent. Agent told me he had a band i should audition for. I walked into the audition, saw the rhythm guitarist and thought, "If it's the last thing i do, i gotta get into this band!" (He was HOT!)

I got into the band and ended up marrying said guitarist.

Five years ago, not long after I registered here, I had a med check up for a new job in DC. I was ready for a change after 3 years in Cincinnati. I took off in middle of the week without knowing for sure I'd have a place to sleep that night. I took the dog with me.

I stopped by at the university, which was in midst of a protest. Vehicular access was blocked off. I met up with someone I knew. He introduced me to a bunch of friends. Among them was my future fiancee. She didn't pay much attention to me then.

Five years later, I'm back in Cincinnati with my fiancee for the couple shower. It has been fun showing her around.

Heard this story from a buddy of mine last night:

About a month ago, he gets his tax refund, and, since times have been hard and pleasures few, he decides to hit the town. Driven by an urgent need to enjoy himself, he bounces from bar to bar, being super-social, talking with anyone and everyone. At one point, an attractive Indian gal starts following him around, and though he initially doesn't think much of it, she keeps doing so. Seems promising.

Somehow they take three cab rides that night - to a place for Indian food, to another bar (?), and then to his place. Decent if not history-books banging ensues, and she heads out at five in the morning, which he's cool with.

When he finally gets up, at noon, he finds that this gal has called him seventeen (!) times.

Freaked out, this sort of mania being an all-time first for him, he doesn't call back.

I met my current Mr Udat 13 years ago......... I was so young, before the days of internet and electricity, we meet at a bar. I did not like him at all. But what can I say he grew on me.

LOLness did you have doubts about it before?

I think meeting online and via email suited our personalities greatly. He is very quiet, barely speaks if he doesn't know a person so I can't see how we would have ever even gotten to know each other if we did live in the same area.

Sometimes I think it would have been for me and my hubby to meet over e-mail. Because I didn't really like him when he was dating Tasha, I felt that he was rude and cold and rude.

Turns out that he's just quiet and reserved unless you are bleeding, enter when we met again in Chicago.

That reminds me of that thing awhile ago about James Woods complaining about being stalked by Sean Young. I'm sitting here thinking, HELLO?!?? :brickwall: What red blooded American male would not give everything they own just in the fervent HOPE of being stalked by Sean Young?

All of them.

Bitch is crazy!

This is the same Sean Young who was so desperate to get the role of Catwoman that she showed up at Tim Burton's office already wearing the costume!

She's kind of cuckoo in the head.

I met my sweetie when she lived upstairs from me as a neighbor.

She moved out of the apartment and into my heart. :) She loves Monty Python, MST3K, and Life on Mars. She's a huge nerd. For Halloween this year, we want to go as Steed and Mrs. Peel from The Avengers. I've never felt so close to someone before, we really do compliment each other. We are planning to get married someday, so I guess that makes her my fiancée.

Not the bestest picture, but I loves it.

She has been told that she looks like Sean Young, btw. :)
