I'm not saying I think what you said is wrong - I think it's wise, but it wouldn't work for me. It's a outlook I often think it might be nice to have, but it's not one I'm geared for.

Self-fulfilling prophecy, but up to you whether you decide to challenge this in your life or not.

Funny thing is, atheists/agnostics make up a slight majority of the furry fandom, well above their representation in the population at large.

I always knew I'd find an amazingly strong argument for believing in God if I looked hard enough.

Very true, and maybe I unfairly diminished that. But I've also always felt a compulsion/desire to do something really significant someday, something potentially big, and in a humanitarian sense. Maybe it's hubris, but I feel that someday, when I've got less student loan debt, more marketable skills and a larger personal network, I'll have to at least try...

Very few people have the skills, resources, and luck to make wide-reaching and lasting impacts. There's nothing insignificant about making the most of what you have and improving what is in reach.

I also think it's important to support those who do have that lucky combination. We're not all star players but that doesn't mean we can't have an impact.

More than likely I am not. But then I was never given the choice to be born or not so I don't consider it entirely my fault that I am a resource hog.

But if you offed yourself you would no longer be a taker.

Question. Are we equating "Positive effect on humanity" with "Productive members of the society"?

And I've enlisted for an eight-year stint in the Navy, which I certainly hope will promote peace and goodwill amongst humans, and think it most likely will
I've just noticed this. I find it quite funny.

I can see a whole lot of reasons for joining the navy: love of boats, the life at sea, the military lifestyle, a sense of belonging and purpose, patriotism, a fondness for blowing stuff up from afar, the snazzy uniforms, whatever.

But to promote peace and goodwill amongst human? That seems quite counter-intuitive.
