Commander Tuvok had sent an urgent com signal to his former Captain at Starfleet's Admiralty last week, requesting immediate and surreptitious assistance on Vulcan, but no word was forthcoming. Starfleet had placed a moratorium on all communication between Vulcan and all Federation colonies soon after his message had been sent. He wasn't even sure his message made it to her, nor what she could possible do to help him, but his years of experience serving with her on 2 different ships told him that it was logical to assume she was on her way.
As he arrived at the ancestral home of the legendary Vulcan, he hesitated. What if the Ambassador's widow refused him entrance again? How could he help if she feared him as much as she feared all Vulcans since it became common knowledge that Star Fleet's embargo was related to her family?
He stood outside the home and waited for an answer to his knock. Admiral Janeway would have called this refusal to use modern technology "quaint", but Tuvok looked at it as just another way to upset any Vulcans who dared to visit.
The door opened slowly and the human stood before him yet again.
"Good Afternoon, Commander. It is not an agreeable time to visit my humble home." she said quietly and with great dignity. "Nor is it safe for you or your career to be seen on my doorstep. I must ask you to leave again."
She tried to close the door but this time Tuvok placed his hand against it. "Perrin, it is not logical for you to bear this burden alone. I am willing to help. Allow me to do so."
Perrin smiled, "If it was within my power, Commander, but alas it is not. He will not let a Vulcan pass these doors, and I've already told you the only human he will let near besides myself is Captain Picard."
Tuvok shook his head, "That is impossible. The Enterprise is on a mission to the Beta Quadrant and at maximum warp could not return for another 4 months. Did you not explain that to him?"
Perrin sighed, "Of course I did, but you know how stubborn these men can be in their old age."
Tuvok nodded. "I will return tomorrow, in case he relents. Until then, Perrin."
"Life long, and prosper, Commander Tuvok." she said softly as he removed his hand and the door closed between them.
Tuvok turned and walked away from the ancestral home of two of Vulcan's most famed sons, and calculated the odds that Admiral Janeway would reach them in time.
