Not to speak on Robert's behalf, but just in case he missed this... His avatar, sig, and custom user title were sarcastic jokes poking fun at some of the more hysterical rhetoric directed at Obama, not how Robert actually feels. I know there's no way to have known that without knowing his posting history, though, so I just wanted to let you know.
What's sad is that I tried to be as over-the-top as possible so you couldn't mistake it for anything but hyperbolic satire, but apparently it was too close to how some people really think.

Oh, I got so caught up in "damn, I can't believe it's already time for campaign season again" fever that I forgot to mention that I voted for Obama in 2008, and will vote for him again in 2012.
I've been disappointed with him on a few things like his personal stances on certain social issues (gay marriage) where he can use his influence to motivate people to change, his sometimes excessive need to compromise even when he should take a stand, his continuation of Extraordinary Rendition, his refusal to veto the military spending bill which blocked the transfers of prisoners from Gitmo to the US to face trials in civilian court, and his administration's frequent lack of transparency (as promised).
However, given the massive economic, diplomatic, strategic, and political shitburger he inherited from the previous administration, I think he's done surprisingly well, and none of the rogues' gallery of Republican hopefuls so far have shown that they are worthy of the office.

Yeah, but still, just as a hypothetical, what is "as far away, politically and ideologically, from Obama as time and space will allow"? I'm just trying to figure out what SPOCKED has in mind here. I mean, how could anybody who has even the remotest of chances to convince 50% of voting Americans to support him/her fulfill that requirement?

Although I'd consider myself a liberal, I really don't like either party, but I support the democrats as the lesser of two evils. That's how I see Obama, the lesser evil when compared to the alternatives. So I'll probably vote for him.
No way. Even the most radical right-wing evangelical Republican who got elected in a federal election in the last 50 or so years has much more in common with Obama "politically and ideologically" than, eg Hu Jintao or Ahmadinejad.

Since the last election year I voted for ANYTHING other than 'the lesser of two evils' began with a '19', I will have to wait and see what the alternative evil is this time around, before I make up my mind which one is worse.

Yeah, but I don't see Brown running or winning. If the Tea Party movement makes a strong showing in this election and subsequent mid-terms, I could see someone like Rubio or Rand Paul (maybe Bachman, but she comes off as possibly the least Presidential of the tea partiers) trying to ride them for a nomination.

Obama's not perfect, but no candidate with a realistic shot of winning is ever going to share most of my political views--I'm just way too far left.
So, I'll take what I can get, and another Republican Presidency is a prospect just too horrifying to contemplate.

I had to chuckle at the way Herman Cain spoke about 'Europe', as if it was some terrible place no one wants to live in under any circumstances. I guess I somehow missed my continent go to crap.
