Another Voyager 1st-time watch thread

^ I would have put him on my personal Top 50 "cute guys that make me adore them like a brother" list. Along with Colm Meany. :bolian:

I heart Colm Meany. I think he's great.

Great reviews, Shatnertage! Keep 'em coming! I enjoy reading them.

Congratulations! Everyone I know who's had or is having a baby this year is having a girl. Do you know what you're having?

About "Blink of an Eye": I LOVE IT. One of my faves. A+. Just good, classic, interesting, fun, awesome Trek. Can't say anything bad about it at all. LOVED Daniel Dae Kim (I read somewhere that he'd been up for the Harry Kim role...either that or everyone wishes he'd had the role instead, lol).

A girl. Who will not be named B'Elanna. Or Seven. So if nobody hears from me for a few days in mid-May, she's probably arrived.

I really would have liked to see Kim's character join the crew as a reluctant explorer--at the end of the ep, just give a technobabble explanation for why he can't go back. I'd have let Neelix leave in the next episode or two to keep the numbers down.

For that matter, I think he would have made a way better Sulu than John Cho. He's definitely got the voice for it--very resonant. Too bad all Trek came up with for him was a background MACO.

Yay for another girl! Um, my daughter's name is Kira. A couple of my husband's friends refuse to believe we did not name her after Kira Nerys. :guffaw:

The moment Kim walked onto the bridge, I said, THIS is who's missing from Voyager. Maybe they could have traded Harry Kim for him...

:rofl:

Kira is such a pretty name.

My son's name is William and my best friend, his godmother, is convinced that I named him for William Shatner. :guffaw:

I really like Kira too.

I met a kid whose first name is Riker. He wasn't named for Will. Awesome kid, though.

Thanks for loving on my kid's name! My son's name does not remind anyone of Trek, and I'm sure you can kind of guess it, from my user name...

Hey, mairbeariepie, since you've got 2 coming your way, how about Kate and Jane? :guffaw: Your bf will love those! Actually, those are lovely, classic names and if you use them, they'd be fabulous on their own.

:guffaw::guffaw:

Not bad. Kate and Jane are beautiful names. Except if I did name one of them Jane, well let's just say my married name starts with a W.

And Kate would be a nickname for Katarina which he has considered. Along with Katharine, but that's for a middle name.

Hubby thinks that we're actually choosing names. Silly man, I've had my girls names picked out since I was 11. :guffaw: And I don't intend to change them. :whistle:

Your sons name's Mark? Wasn't that Janeway's fiancé? :D

LOL at this! Yes, of course you know your girls' names! But your hubby will be subtly made to believe he had something to do with it. ;)

My son is actually Markus, and we don't shorten it. Ew, I totally didn't even think about Janeway's fiancé! :rofl:

Marcus is a good name. I like it, but would never use it, it's way too close to my name. :rofl:

Of course he'll think he had something to do with it. :lol:

He thinks he came up with Liam's middle names, I was actually one of those people in middle school who had no life and decided how many kids I was going to have and their names, so I had his full name six years before I met my dear hubby. :guffaw:

Oh, and Shatnertage your next episode is one of my favorite's.

Every time I hear the name Marcus, all I can think about is Eartha Kitt in Eddie Murphy's "Boomerang" and tell him how she has no panties on.:lol:

Exodus, I've never seen "Boomerang" but I'm sure it was a racy little scene you're thinking of...
You should rent it.
It's the last really funny film Eddie Murphy made.
Grace Jones, Eartha Kitt & Geoffery Holder steal the film.:lol:

I'm back with a great episode...

"Virtuoso"

It's like the writers had a checklist of everything I like and wrote a story around it:

- Light comedic storyline? Check.

- Featuring the Doctor? Check.

- Some nice seriocomic scenes for Janeway and Seven? Check.

- The Doctor sings? Check.

About the only thing missing was NaomiWildman looking all wide-eyed at something cool Seven did.

Unfortunately the episode wasn't all good. I've got to say that the actress who plays Rintoo gives an awful performance. The entire time she speaks in that slow, "talking....to...a...moron" way; it's like the director never said, "OK, after the first scene you're no longer contemptuous of the EMH, so talk to him normally. It kind of detracts from the episode.

But Robert Picardo is awesome as always. Plays the comedy well, sings his ass off, and does the serious stuff with plenty of conviction. As some one who does a fair bit of public speaking, I really identified with his addiction to the adulation (I never get that level of adulation, of course, but work with me here). So, incredibly enough, a show about a hologram in the 24th century Delta Quadrant wanting to be an opera star personally resonates with me. That's a sign of great writing and a great actor.

When the Doctor sand "Old Black Magic" I was absolutely ecstatic. Picardo's a great singer, and that's a great song. He really swang it, too. I'd love to hear him do more jazz singing.

The Doctor misreading Rintoo then getting replaced was pretty poignant. Nice touch with Janeway wiping away a tear after his final performance.

So this one was a real treat for me.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

You had me going. I was sitting here thinking: "Holy cow, how did I never notice that chick was named Rintoo?"

I actually had to go to Memory Alpha to confirm that she wasn't.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Just checked MA myself. It's Tincoo. I wish I could take credit for making a joke there--I really thought it was Rintoo. I'm watching too much Ni Hao, Kai Lan lately.

Rintoo actually would have given a better performance there. I don't like to bag on people, but that was pretty bad.

And I knew that the name of the species sounded familiar. It's the Qomar, and there's also a Komar species. Were they running out of names?

Also, both my wife and I thought that the one Qomar guy at the beginning looked a lot like Martin Scorcese.
