Rank the film scores.

Yesterday, to round out my collection of the Star Trek film music, I bought the Nemesis soundtrack. Despite it not being one of my favorite Star Trek films, I do think the music is very good. My only note was, Mr. Goldsmith conducts the closing theme (The Motion Picture and Next Generation theme) at a slower pace than in previous movies and I don't like it as much. I feel like it loses something.

In any event, still a great score; probably one of my favorites. It'll be hard to choose, but here's my ranking of the film scores.

And by the way, I'm sure I'm in the minority when you see what my FAVORITE one is.

I don't know them all well enough to rank them, but FIRST CONTACT is the probably the one I listen to the most when writing.

My opinion of the film scores tends to vary over time, so this ranking is subject to change. Part of this has to do with the fact that the released soundtracks often leave out huge chunks of great music, so my opinion of the soundtrack may not accurately reflect my opinion of the film's score as a whole.

First Contact and Star Trek '09 are what I catch myself humming the most. TMP and TWOK has some good stuff... the rest is pretty forgettable.

To me, TMP, TWOK, FC, and XI form a block of scores head and shoulders above the rest. TMP is the only musical soundtrack I own a copy of, and it dates from LP days.

I'd forgotten about XI. I wasn't a fan, but it was well-scored. I liked Two Steps From Hell's 'Down With the Enterprise.'
