Corps of Engineer books?

I've only read as far as the Interphase two-parter. They're okay, but a bit lacking in depth. Soloman's the only character that's really clicked for me thus far and I don't buy Sonya Gomez as a team commander (yeah it's a decade later, but just like I don't see her having "it"). I'm planning on going back at some point... but Treklit's just so big.

I think SCE/Coe worked quite well. It was a real shame that it stopped. I think if we had prices like we did back then and given the popularity of eBooks that it might have been more of a hit then it was. Back then not as many people read TREK eBooks. But if the prices are like they are now, they would not sell.

I think you're forgetting the law of supply and demand. When a product is more in demand, its price tends to rise. Maybe the reason eBooks do cost more today is because they're more popular, meaning that the market can support that higher price. Perhaps the earlier prices were held down in hopes of encouraging interest in a new type of product.

The agency model was developed to thwart the $9.99 price for eBooks when the pBook was in hardback. This was the publishers way of getting back at Amazon. It has nothing to do with supply & demand. Apple's contract for eBooks said that that Apple cannot be undersold. And thus the agency model was born. It's paranoia on the agency 6 that they were/are afraid that eBooks would take away from pBook sales. So up when the prices, away went discounts/sales and it's nothing to do with raising prices because of demand. It's publishers who are being stupid and do not care about the customer nor the author.

I really enjoyed this series,much more than I thought I would(not being a tech-head).
Good characterization,a very diverse crew and a huge array of alien worlds/cultures....what's not to like?
I would agree somewhat with an earlier comment about the character of Gomez though,I found her hard to warm to or really visualize(which is weird as Gomez is a character who originated on TNG).
Wildfire is probably one of the most atmospheric Treklit novels that I have ever read.(And yes I'm aware that atmospheric is a rather apt description...)

I'm one of those deeply primitive people who actually likes holding a book in his hand. You know, like how Jim Kirk and Picard do.

I also refuse to pay for ebooks until the prices drop to something I consider reasonable.

Well you quoted the law of supply and demand there... then only talked about the demand bit. Same law says that as supply goes up, prices come down. And how many copies of the latest eBook are available in the supply?

(1) Are these thirteen books listed in the correct reading order, then?

(2) Are all 74 ebooks incorporated into the above mass markets and trade paperbacks shown, or did some not make the cut?

(3) IIRC, the daVinci crew somehow made a planet "dissapear" so the Borg overlooked it during the events of "Destiny", but I was wondering if that story had been told already and if so, what book?

They contain the entire "original series" under the S.C.E. banner. The eight installments of the rebranded Corps of Engineers eBooks have not yet been collected.

No. The last installment of CoE took place in mid-2377. The events of Destiny take place in early 2381. The references to the disappearing planet were created for Destiny and that event has not been depicted in any subsequent work.

These were put out back when they did not use embedded fonts and all was right with the eBook world. So other then a higher then it should be price, there's nothing you need do to fix these. So unless they bothced the conversion from LIT to ePub all will be well.

All the SCE/CoE eBooks are available. It's the printed collections that are not all available. But then, those were never originally eBooks and the eBooks exist as singles. So they are all there collected or not.

You can hold a reader in your hand(s) just like a book. The only difference is how you turn the page. A Sony Reader is as close to a pBook page turn as you'll get.

As for the price being charged these days, I agree that they are a bit over the top and high.

They do exist as singles. I did buy them as singles and Im glad I did back when they were reasonably priced. The agnecy model is not a time limited thing. It's an ongoing thing. But if we keep having books bashed like we do the latest Micheal Connelly eBook on Amazon, we might get someplace. It's bashed big tikme due to the higher price of the eBook then the pBook. Way to go Amazon (This is a good thing). Amazon lowered the price of the hardcover so it was lower then the eBook and that stutrred a lot of people to give 1 star reviews based on the price.
