The Simpsons edited in Germany over nuclear crisis

I've never liked the idea of programmes being edited/stopped because of current affairs.

Aside from the unpleasantness of media censorship, if it was one of our favourite episodes, or one that we hadn't seen, or are otherwise looking forward to watching it, then the ban would prevent us from doing so.

Life goes on, and it should do so without additional unnecessary disruption being created.

but never under estimate the ability for certain elements of the population to make a big stink over nothing.

There were people in the U.S demanding the Lord Of The Ring: The Two Towers be renamed. They were adamant the Two Towers was a reference to the WTC and that Liberals were denigrating the memory of those who died there.

While in this instance the film title wasn't changed because it was the title of the book and was relevant to the film other times it's simply easy for the networks to censor.

While removing episodes of the Simpsons is a non-event, in other instances it's much easier and simpler of the U.S networks to pull episodes - it saves the shit with the FCC because the Christian lobby gets it's panties in a bunch over sex and nudity.

I've always known that the Germans are crazy. When was the last time there has been a 9.0 earthquake and a tsunami in Central Europe?

Germany tends to have real trouble doing things in moderation be it militarism of days past or enviro-pacifism in the modern era.

While I nontheless don´t agree with the pro-nuclear opinions I have to say I don´t think I am truly able to discuss it in depth, as I would first have to get more knowledge to stand such a discussion.
However ...just thought about what jmc247 said... and maybe its true, not for everyone in Germany on an individuel basis of course, but when we talk in generalisms (is that a word?).
Anyway, but I just wondered if "you get all or nothing" is indeed a bit of the German mentality. And wonder why.
And here just comes to my mind, even thats a different topic from the start-topic, what you guys thing about the decision with Lybia?
I feel sort of troubled about this decision On the one hand I think it should be the way, that we stand together and that also Germany helps directly...on the other hand I guess the decision came about, because Germany never wants to be the aggressor again..so the military just gets send on peace-missions, not on war-missions.

Or their stance on/against violent videogames...
But this reminds me of how certain songs wouldn't be played during the 2 gulf-wars, though now it's ok to play them :censored:  :mallory:

That was a Slashdot troll who posted a gag petition to see if he could get a lot of people to sign it. It mentioned nothing about liberals or any other political party, it got slightly more than 1000 signatures, and only that much because you had to sign the petition to just leave a comment, whether positive or negative. The comments were overwhelmingly sarcastic, joking, or critical of the petition and thus were voided by the petition site. Only a very small number of people thought it was genuine and were supportive.

Another article says the episodes won't be cut - they simply won't be shown, just like the episode with the WTC has been pulled on occasions in the wake of 9/11.

That episode aired two days ago in NZ. I was wondering how that episode faired in the states.
