I just ordered a copy of Resident Evil 2 for the cube, a game I'm ashamed to say I've never played (have only played remake and 4). Can't wait.

Gah! I could have picked up Viewtiful Joe for $3.99 while I was out today. 
Ah well, I did grab Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Soul Calibur II for $4 a piece, respectively. Honestly, outside of the internet, it's getting very difficult to find Gamecube games. I was at the flea market today, and one of the sellers had a whole wall of Gamecube games, and I was delighted until I saw that the cheapest one was $15, while others ran upwards of $50, and these weren't new. Other game sellers were the same, with the cheapest being $12 used. I find that kind of pricing rather absurd. I have bought most of my used GC games from Gamestop, but they only have a rack of about 30, and half of those are repeat titles.
I am buying (next week possibly) my niece a smaller controller for the GC. She can't quite reach all the buttons with her fingers, so I'm buying a mini controller just for her. That's so she can play Mario Golf and Finding Nemo (and if I can get her interested, Rogue Leader!).

. They also have the Zero remake in the Wii in the Archives franchise but I don't like Zero.

Maybe that's why GC games are still relatively expensive, because people buy them up for the Wii. I mean, the graphics still look really good, and some of the more fun titles are on the GC.

I've debated whether to get Zero or not. It's $5 (used - no manual) at Gamestop. I wasn't very big into the Resident Evil games. Believe it or not, I'm looking for Mario games, and am finding it to be wanting for the Gamecube. The N64 seems to have a boatload of such games, though.
I'd rate it above the N64 easily, in terms of the games available, the performance of the machine and the life span of the pads compared to the easily-jammed-and-don't-think-about-a-3rd-party-model pads for the N64.
It's really that good. I got a copy thrown in with a second hand GC and hadn't heard about it before that. I didn't play it for a while since I'd picked up Mario Kart with the Zelda sampler and then Wind Waker soon after, but once you get into it, the structure of the game is quite engrossing.

I've still got my GC and I won't be picking up a Wii till they're down to about £50 at the very least. I expect to get quite a bit of use out of it.

Thanks! Believe me, I'd like to own a nice PS3, Nintendo Wii or XBOX 360, but the prices keep me away (and in the case of the XBOX 360, repeated returns due to overheating). To add to that, why pay $200-$500 for a system and then $20-$60 for games, when I can enjoy a nice system and good games for about $30 and $5 respectively?
I'd get more games off of Amazon, but the shipping costs are absurd most of the time. It may be a penny for a game (w00t!), but then it's $6 shipping. Grab a few games and you may be paying 20 cents for all three, but then you're paying $18-$20 for 4 to 14 day shipping. Silliness.
Unfortunately, the Flea Market is no better. $15-$35 for used GC games? Absurd. Our local thrift stores are mostly about clothes, and if you search on a local site like Craigslist, someone may offer games, but they're titles you either already have or are just mediocre titles. It gets a tad frustrating sometimes.
The new generation of 360s with the built in HDDs are a lot more stable and less prone to failure than the original models.

They probably are, but I'll be gunshy about it for a while. When I had bought a 360, it was an investment that failed repeatedly. Each time "Oh, this core is much better" or "this fan is much stronger" only for it to overheat time and again, and I'd get BS answers like "you shouldn't play your 360 for more than half an hour", or "you shouldn't play movies since that overheats it". I hold that against Microsoft, because they knew better, so I'm not willing to part with what I consider a great deal of money to make that gamble again.
Oh yay it's 2011 and I still get to say that Eternal Darkness is the most over rated game for the Gamecube by far. The games camera and controls (the two most important features) make the game unplayable.

Beyond Good and Evil is an amazing game, buy that. F-Zero GX is one of, if not the best racing games ever made, it looks beautiful even to this day. It was even made by Sega. Super Monkey Ball 1 is great, the sequel is based on luck and not skill, I can't stand it. Viewtifull Joe is great too, really pretty game. Buy Animal Crossing because it has Nintendo (NES) games like Donkey Kong in it. Chibi-robo is the craziest game ever made, if you can find it buy it.

Sony did the same thing with the PS2, they made several million consoles (at least) poorly because they didn't care, they knew after 2-3 years you would buy a new console and they get more money. I will never forgive them for that.

I've owned two PS2s and two 360s
My favorite is G4 or Tech TV or someone explained how Sony did it. They made this thing that looks like a quarter plastic instead of metal and you can fit the thing yourself.
It's why I own Nintendo consoles, they know how to make them well and last a long time.
Here are all the Gamecube games I own besides some I bought for cheap in late 2009 to 2010, All but Mario, Animal Crossing and Metriod were bought for less than $20 new.
Bolds are the ones I had the most fun with. The Simpson game is really well made, it's like a GTA game.
I've had my 360 for four years and never had any problems besides occasional overheating, which is fixed by keeping a fan blowing on the console or restarting it when it does happen. Yes, I play it for hours and hours non-stop at a time and the overheating is still rare. I don't know why all you guys had/are having issues with consoles breaking.
I never got why so many people disliked Mario Kart, but then I did manage to scrounge other players for a multiplayer game more often than not.
F-Zero GX really is great, a lot harder than the N64 offering too so there's some longivity going for it too.
What was really amazing for me was that it was a launch title and still had amazing graphics years after it was released. The sequel wasn't quite as good (the on foot levels were a bit clumsy), but still worth picking up because it is still more of the same.
I also want to recommend Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Paper Mario.
I like Mario Kart and F-Zero, however Nintendo made some shitty games in the GC era and Mario Kart was one of them.
It is very hard, I still haven't unlocked the final levels, I think it's called the Queen Race.
