Just heard on the news that Ricky Ponting will stand down as Captain for any future tests and ODI. But will remain in the team. Also nothing on whom will be the new captain and vice captain. It shall be an interesting next few years.
So have we won this thing yet or not? GO AUSSIE GO

I've been dreading this since he made those telltale comments about 'having a think about my future' a few days ago.
How can it be that Australia's best batsman in fifty years goes and Hilditch stays?
What good does it do Clarke, who seems to hate pressure, to have the captaincy of our rebuilding side added to his plate when he is playing for his spot?
We'll end up burning off two captains in two seasons. Watch the press tear Clarke to shreds now.
I hope I'm wrong, but my gut feeling is that Cricket Australia have pulled the wrong rein here today.

If I knew, I'd tell you (and I'd be watching it myself). Hopefully someone can suggest something.
I'm hoping this decision by Ponting will lead to him regaining form and having a Tendulkar-type renaissance in his career. I believe the captaincy, along with the feebleness of Australia's batting in recent times, has been a huge factor in his declining form. The feeble batting lineup remains but he's now in a better position to contribute to rebuilding it.
I'm willing to give Clarke a chance to grow into the captaincy; I'm apparently in the minority there, though. The Watson choice is...baffling, but I suppose there's no one else - particularly given the enthusiasm Paine is attracting as a Haddin replacement before the corpse has even died (so to speak).
Interesting times for Australian cricket. Hopefully Hilditch will fall on his sword next. Lord knows he's far more deserving of the chop than Ponting.
Unfortunate for New Zealand, but not unexpected. Nice that Murali got a wicket with his last delivery in Sri Lanka.

It's living up to the hype so far. Sehwag was taking the Pakistan quicks to the cleaners, and the game looked to be fast slipping away.
Sehwag was then given out LBW thanks to a brilliant decision from Taufel (best umpire of all time?) off the left armer Riaz. The ball looked to be pitching well outside leg stump, and Sehwag didn't even blink before referring it. I thought it was not out for all money as well, but sure enough it pitched in line, and Sehwag was on his bike.

India have their noses in front, but they really should have been all out for 150.

So...who are we supporting in the final?
In all honesty, if it were possible for Tendulkar to win a World Cup without involving egomaniacs like Dhoni and Harbhajan, I'd be behind India. But given how loudmouthed those two would be if they won, I'm hoping Sri Lanka win.
Realistically, though, India have to be favourites. Even with over a billion people death riding them, there's enough class in that batting lineup to deal with the class of Sri Lanka's bowling lineup.
Ideally, whoever wins Sachin will score a hundred and Murali will take five wickets.
Such great players deserve to leave the World Cup stage on personal highs.

As soon as I saw Sreesanth named to line up for India, it's a no brainer : the Lankans all the way. 
They've made four changes, which can't be ideal going into a pressure cooker match like this.
For that reason, I think the little master, Tendulkar, may have the last laugh. No doubt he'll score a ton and hit the winning runs, too.
