Consoles Are Fun!

I just got a hold of a used Nintendo Gamecube. Yeah, I know, way to stay on top of the trend (;)), but I am excited. One of my family members gave me a Gamecube console (he didn't know if it worked) that didn't have anything else with it; no controllers, no a/v cable, no power supply. So I took it to our local Gamestop and the clerk tested it, and while it worked, it was in rather bad shape. So I asked him about a trade in credit, and he said I could get $10 out of it. Well, Gamecube systems were $29 (with controller, a/v, and power supply), so I just traded it in and paid the difference, picking up used copies of Need For Speed: Underground and 1080' Avalanche for $3 a piece.

Now, granted, it's not HD and my HDTV shows that, but it's easily forgotten as I put in NFS:U and start it up. After 5 minutes of play, I realize just how much fun it is to play on a console instead of a PC! My last experience with consoles were one of the 1st gen X-Box 360s, and after repeated returns and repairs, I gave up on console gaming. I am having so much fun playing on this little Gamecube. You know, the technology may be older, but it still packs a lot of punch!

I don't know, I guess I'm just excited to play on a console that's recent (before the 360, my last console was a Super Nintendo). So I'll ask, since I'm so very new to the Gamecube, are there any games that really stand out?

Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Zelda twilight Princess, Zelda The Wind Waker, Super Smash Brothers, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Eternal Darkness, Beyond Good and Evil, Super Mario Sunshine

Try and track those down. Ill see if I can think of some more

Eternal Darkness is probably my favorite game for that system. I agree with a lot of the stuff above and would only add Metal Gear Twin Snakes to the list.

I've just joined the club as well. My last console was a Sega Genesis. Before that it was the NES, and before that the Atari 2600. Then last year, I got a Wii for Christmas. Now, just a few days ago I bought a PS3 Home Theatre Bundle, which I've still yet to receive. But I did buy GT5 for it.

The Gamecube isn't up to the standard of Nintendo's other great consoles, but there's a few gems for the system that are well worth playing.

Highly Recommend

Beyond Good & Evil
Mario Kart: Double Dash (everyone needs a Mario Kart)
Metroid Prime 1 & 2
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball 2
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Tales of Symphonia
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda: Twilight Princess

Moderately Recommend

Bomberman Generations (for multiplayer only)
F-Zero GX
Luigi's Mansion
Pikmin
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Two Thrones
Resident Evil 4
Star Wars: Rogue Leader

^ I'll check those out, too. I just picked up Star Wars Rogue Leader and it looks gorgeous. Got it for a $1 used!

We have a Gamecube. Much underrated console. All of the Nintendo titles are solid as usual.
Super Smash, Mario Kart, Zelda: Wind Waker, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Mario Sunshine are all good games. Aside from Twilight Princess, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting the games cheap either.

Yeah, RE4 and the RE remake were top titles for that system. Personally, this was the system that officially wore me out on Zelda and Mario titles too. That and my own age probably put me a bit past their target demographic. But I just find them to be rehashes of rehashes now.

Another vote for the RE1 Remake. I've played through it several times. I wish they would've done similar versions of 2 and 3.

I would also like to point out, again, Eternal Darkness. It's not only the best game on the Game Cube, it was probably one of the top 5 games of that generation.

I didn't know there were that many good games for it when I started this.

Okay, I got my hands on Metroid Prime ($3 used). I'm still standing by my statement that even on an HDTV, Gamecube graphics look very good, and the game itself is pretty good. I'm not quite sure what to expect so far.

I agree, consoles are better by far for the purpose of gaming than cell phones or PC's. Consoles are ready to play games at full speed right out of the box, no RAM sticks, video cards or graphics drivers required.

Yep. With that little Gamecube, I can start playing games from 2001 and keep playing them right up to the games are discontinued, and not have to upgrade anything.
