Recycling/Going Green

Warning ~ this is what could happen when you decide to recycle...

kitchenbags.jpg

Beware the bags! It was a tribble situation!

Nothing... nothing??

May I recommend you get yourself a copy of Earth In The Balance -- the recycled pages make a delightful toilet paper :)

Yet I bet you couldn't verbalize without looking it up what it is about the book that bothers you so much apart from Al Gore being its author.

It's too bad that most modern conservatives have staked out the opposition viewpoint to climate change to such a degree that they now have a ridiculous knee-jerk reaction to any type of conservation, environmentalism, or recycling, even though Republicans of the past like Teddy Roosevelt, Barry Goldwater, and Richard Nixon made great strides in those areas.

Even if you don't believe in man-made climate change, isn't recycling, conservation, and protecting the environment a good thing anyway? Why do you have so much hostility to the idea in general?

I thought that toilet paper comment is a joke.

So I did a footprint test and it basically told me I was an asshole and that TWO AND A HALF earths were needed to sustain my lifestyle.

All that and never had A/C in my life. Eat meat less than once a week, no car, blah blah.. .

Maybe I will just cave and get the A/C this summer. Seeing as how I'm already an eco destroyer. Might as well Rambo it up since there was not a single thing I picked I would change.

@NCC1701: But in the cities/ towns like Auckland, Hamilton, Dunedin, Wellington...the puplic transportation is ok, yes? And between the bigger places or the more spectacular places as well, yes?

TerokNor

Well, I live 30km North of Auckland, and public transport in the city itself is really crap, as well, seeing as 90% of public transport here are buses. Only in the last 10 years have trains started catching on here. From what I hear Wellington is the only city in the country that has a half-decent public transport system, trains are also more heavily used there as well. Yeah, getting between cities is relatively easy, we have buses, airplanes and trains - if you're lucky - serving the main centres.

I guess it's just what you have to put up with when you live in a country the size of Japan with only 4 million inhabitants!

:D Busses! Thats all right. At least something. So when I am car-less I still can see places on the North and South Island.
Wellington.... hm... its supposed to have the biggest risc of earth quakes... I read.

Thank you ~ it's what everyone's going to be wearing next year ;)

I half believe you may be right. We're revisiting the 70s this year, so we're headed in the right direction to be wearing actual garbage by next year. :D

I am so inspired to design a dress now...

If you do, base it on Haider Ackermann's Autumn 2011 gowns; the scrunchy/messy black leather and silk of some of the looks would lend itself perfectly to black binbags. :D

I've always been very wary about that carbon-footprint stuff...

Can I say what I plan to do when I get a place of my own?
Right now, my family house, has a couple of those swirly light bulbs, and the trash company recycles all of our trash for us.

I am apparently 4.45 earths, which means I eat puppies and run over children. I don't drink blood, but that's only because it would support recycling, something I apparently hate.

I can't even imagine what my footprint is. Its probably high right now, not by my own choice. I also don't help, becuase I am a carnivore.

Yeah, I live with 2 other people, and while my own habits are more space saving/green, one of the people I live with can't help but require what she does.

Oh Honey ~ you've seen nothing yet! When Son and friend get back from pub tonight! I will be a walking talking advert for Sains! :guffaw:

You're right of course; Sainsbury's bags make for a much more springtime colour. Save the black bags for the autumn. :D

Will you pattern-match the writing on the bags at the seams?

Absolutely, and you will hardly see the blood running from me as they staple their design in place :ouch:
