Dr Who-Comic Relief March 18th!! (spoilers!)

Meh. For what it was, I found it entertaining ... a bit of fluff that comes and goes without further notice. But it just felt uninspired and trite despite the tease of a great story by showing a TARDIS within a TARDIS. The only thing I really enjoyed was watching these three perform together.

And while I can imagine Rory getting distracted by a view of his wife's nethers from under a glass floor, I don't believe he or anyone else would have actually dropped anything. People get distracted by such things in real life, but they don't just let things go. If he'd instead inserted the thermocouples in the wrong order, or accidentally connected the wrong end and "reversed the polarity", I'd buy into the scene more. But dropping it? Nah ... trite.

So I'm with the pillar of the community on this one. And Count Zero.

It was fun and put a smile on my face after a rough night. The Doctor, Rory and Amy are all adorable together.

Yeah, I think both RTD and Moffat know exactly which buttons to press. Moffat's jibing seems to be a little nicer in spirit, but maybe he just hasn't got too hacked off with fandom yet ;)

Moffat did reveal in the audio commentary for "The Eleventh Hour" I think it was that he is aware of internet chatter for the show and has in the past gone in forums. I think someone here mentioned he used to post at Gallifrey Base or some such site. He seems to be even more aware of what is on fans minds than Russell was.

Do you think that's a good thing or a bad one? I rather get a kick out of it, and personally... I think it helps fans feel - should feel - more a part of the show itself.

I think it can only be a good thing for showrunners in general to be aware of what their fans think of their shows. In Doctor Who's case I think it can lead to fun, playful moments like we got in the comic relief specials with Amy.

Their performance was the whole point in something this short.

Gotta love a showrunner who knows how to mess with the fans. :)

No doubt in part due to the proof that we're easily messed with.

Ain't that the truth.

It sure doesn't hurt that this is the man who gave us Coupling!

That was exactly what you wanted for Comic Relief...A silly stupid bit of fluff ;). Anyone who seriously examines this short story needs a slap to remind them the whole point of comic relief.

Oooooh, I'm sure the whole point was actually to get people clapping and donating money or whatever Red Nose was all about. And I've no complaint on that score ... they could have had Arthur, Karen, and Matt come out on stage and do the skit in-character to save money, but they gave it the full-polish instead. And that heightened my expectations a bit. It just felt like a lot of effort for a script that, broken down, looks to have been dashed off between meetings. Fun? Sure. But a few ideas short of thoughtful.

On the other hand, the creeping realization that Rory won't be developed any further after his two-thousand-year service as Amy's sentinel might be leaving me overly prone to disappointment.

I BEG your pardon?! Well if that's not the most insulting, daft, stereotyped over-simplification of SF nerds since black face, I don't know what is! You can't just lump us all ... together ... like ...

Oh.

Oh, I see your point.

I think the point of the sketch was that it was meant to be a comedy piece and nothing more than that. For some reason there are those of us looking for more depth and meaning in something that wasn't going to have it in the first place. It wasn't meant to be a regular episode or anything even remotely resembling a regular episode. For someone to be disappointed about character development in a comedy segment is silly to me. Judge Rory's development in the actual series, not based on one comedic sketch.
