Old Kitbash I Found

Sam McCord

Lieutenant Commander
Hey, all...

I was going through my many old/broken Trek models that I want to fix up someday, and came across an OLD kitbash I did, was back in like 6th grade, lol...

I took the small Enterprise that came with the Enterprise Incident kit, and put the Klingon warp nacelles on it. I then painted it gold for some reason. In any case, here it is:

It's cool.

How long had TNG been on at that time? You might have been inspired by the gold half-ships in the conference room.

I soaked the saucer in Pine Sol today, to remove the gold paint... it worked great on the top saucer, but made a bit of mess on the lower saucer, so I will re-soak that tomorrow, or just sand it smooth again. But the top saucer is devoid enough of gold paint for me to be cool with how it is. As you can see, the starboard warp pylon had a blemish that needs to be sanded smooth and puttied smooth, before I soak and paint that part.

I am thinking since this model is so tiny, that I will just do a good clean-up job, align all the parts neatly on it, sand smooth the FJ-style panel lines, and paint the thing a nice "desk model" silver, and make a very simple (but nice) wooden stand for it.

^ That's a good idea. I always thought it was strange, in Star Fleet Battles, that the Orion "Pirates" would have a fleet of identical ships just like every other race.

Would make more sense for them to have stolen/captured/scavenged ships.

Okay... I stripped most of the paint off of the top saucer, and applied the first primer. The primer showed that i still have some panel lines to sand down, so I'm gonna do that today.

Hey, I know it's been a while and I don't mean to contradict you, but I'm willing to bet that those parts came from the much older "Three-Piece Adversaries Set" and not the "Enterprise Incident" kit. The 3-pc kit was a larger scale and number of the details were different from how the "IE" kit was. Most notably, the "IE" Enterprise was molded with the "turbolift nub" or what have you on the front end of the bridge dome instead of the back end where it's supposed to be, and where every other kit of the E puts it, including the 3-pc one.

I'm just sayin'....

No, you are quite correct... I had just forgotten what the kit was called, since it's been so long.

The 3-Enterprise kit can still be found cheaply, in case you need more parts in that size, no to mention the second 3-Enterprise set (B, C & E).

There were lots of 3-pc Star Trek model kits produced over the years. You might have in mind the three piece Enterprise kit, which, with the B, C, & E one you mention you could get all six Federation Starships of the name in one consistant (1:2400) scale. These parts are from the "Three Piece Adversary Set" which featured the three main ships in TOS, the Enterprise, the Klingon Battlecruiser, and the Romulan Bird-of-Prey. This kit was 1:1600 and hailed from the late '60's or early '70's, and was re-popped in the '80's and early '90's. But I bet you could still find one on eBay or the like for not too much dough.

Ah yes. I have that one on one of my DVD shelves.

That one was called the "Space Ship Set" both times. There's a couple on ebay right now for $25 & $35 and one for $120 (probably sealed).

The "Three Piece Adversary" set had the D'deridax, Ferengi ship & Klingon BOP. A TNG era set.

Oh yeah, I always get those two names confused. Oh well, at least now I'm sure we all are on the same page.
