Does Rory remember?

EJA

Fleet Captain
This might seem like a little bit of an odd question, but does Rory now remember all of his adventures with the Doctor prior to the universe being rebooted?

I was confused by that as well. I just re-watched "Big Bang" and I completely forgot the fact that Rory wasn't actually Rory but an Auton with his memories implanted.

Well, didn't he say "I was plastic" during the wedding reception? That might indicate he at least remembers something.

In addition to remembering being plastic, he also mentions he remembers the Doctor being the stripper at his stag party...so he remembers his life pre-death/resurrection as an Auton as well...

That's the thing. Amy and Rory both remember adventures they didn't actually have. They have memories of their life with the Doctor, but the actual life they've now lived is the life where Amy's parents didn't disappear and they didn't actually meet the Doctor until the wedding reception.

Now that is really confusing.

Really? I didn't think so. They all remembered it. It sort of felt like they were waking from a dream, so maybe that's how their brains are considering it--dream lives they led and the rebooted stuff is what "really" happened. Or vice versa.

Okay, so the Rory at the wedding wasn't an Auton, then, he was human. 'Cause that was all a smidge fuzzy.

Him still being an Auton (albeit a "good" one) would be cool. Those guns hidden in his hands could have been useful someday. :p

Well, he seemed quite blown away when he said,

"How could we forget The Doctor?"

I think he remembers. I actually just watched The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang and it was awesome. Rory has definitely Taken a Level since his first appearance.

Hey, this is my first post in the Doctor Who board! Yay!

Back on topic, I really liked the way The Big Bang ended. I'm looking forward to the next season...I mean, series...or do I? I don't know, I haven't quite wrapped my head around British TV.

I believe Rory remembers everything. He's wearing his Roman centurion outfit in "A Christmas Carol" and as has been pointed out he did utter a little overawed "How could we forget the Doctor". I get what Allyn is saying or implying that somehow after the universe was reset that they only retained memories of their life prior to the reset. I don't think that's the case though or what Moffat intended.

My only concern is that Rory, if he really remembers being the Pandorica's sentinel for 2000 years, should have developed a bit -- "manned up" or "taken a level" as TiberiusMaximus puts it. Yet in "A Christmas Carol", he seems to be back to being comical, self-doubting, old Rory again.

Please, please, please make Rory a stronger character in Series 6!

Well, he was interrupted in the honeymoon suite...so perhaps the blood flow to his brain was a bit...restricted...

Really? I haven't watched A Christmas Carol. That's a bit depressing. Maybe it'll just take him some time. We now know what he can do, in any case.

To be fair, he didn't have a lot to do in the special, and that wasn't the place to really go into deep personality changes. It's a one-off and there's room to introduce development in the next series.

But, yeah, it was a bit depressing. I don't want to see Rory played by Bruce Willis, but I do hope that the accumulated experiences he's now had have changed him. In a sense, he's now older than the Doctor.

Yeah but it's a lot easier to be macho when you're made out of solid plastic and have laser guns built into your hands, than when you go back to being just another regular mortal human!

Part of Rory's character is that he's funny and comical. That doesn't have to be a devolution of his character's "manliness". I don't get that logic. There's no reason for him to act that way now. He has Amy. He's proven himself to the Doctor. The Doctor respects and understands how important he is to Amy. That aspect of his character should be minor. Also I agree with Starkers.

Okay, so if Rory and Amy remember but didn't actually live their time with the Doctor thanks to the reboot--how did Amy still have a "Raggedy Doctor" in the reboot?
