About the 3D release of the SW Prequels.

What will you do when the new Star Wars PT in 3D comes out?

I'm curious as to what people feel about Lucas upconverting the Prequel into 3D and selling the movies again to the public.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of 3D effect in movies because I hate having to wear those glasses on my face. Also, I liked the PT for what they are, 2D eye candy and nothing more. Hell, I even own all of the DVDs. But I will have no motivation to pay $15 to $18 a pop to see the same movies again in 3D. Eye candy with a wet tissue thin plot is not enough for me anymore.

Please vote.

Re: Poll about the 3D release of the SW Prequels.

3D movies near me cost the same as 2D movies.

However the movies were never made for 3D, and oh yeah they are terrible! Why would I bother watching a shit movie in 3D when I never want to watch them again in 2D?

Re: Poll about the 3D release of the SW Prequels.

What poll? Where is it? EDIT: Never mind, now I see the poll options.

I like 3D movies when they are done well. (Avatar, Tron, many CG animated films) But I avoid 3D converted films.

And I certainly won't see the prequel trilogy in 3D. If the OT is released in 3D I might see it, depending on reviews.

Re: Poll about the 3D release of the SW Prequels.

Although, I've liked some 3-D in theaters, I've never seen any 3D at home that was worth the glasses, so, I doubt it'll be worth the effort, even if you do enjoy the Prequel Trilogy

Edit - Oh, I see from later replies, it's a theatrical release, not a Home Video release, oops.

Still - no need to watch thema gain, if I feel compelled to do so, my DVDs are good enough

My answer is no, I won't go see them. I might - MIGHT - go see the OT when they hit, but I don't really even strongly feel the need to see those in an upconverted 3D. Plus, they'll probably be the special editions in which case I guarantee I won't bother to go see them. The Star Wars films have gone from classic cinema to a joke from 1997 to 2005. I don't see any reason to reward making them a bigger joke with my money.

3D is a technology that's really exciting to 14 year olds and hopefully within a couple years, they'll grow out of it and the people making 3D films will realize no one else cares about the tech.

There oughta be an option for "no way PT, but will probably check out the 3D OT." :)

I may be wrong, but the original poster seems to be unaware that it's not just the pequels that are being released. A few years from now, people may see the famous trench run in 3-D... and that might hold a certain appeal to people.

As for me, I'm not sure yet.

I think people are sick of 3-D.
The art of film making is to make a 2-D frame come alive.

Don't need to see these in 3D. Didn't need to see SW with new specuial effects, either.

Do something new already, George.

Plus the asteroid chase scene in TESB.

And the 'conduit' run in ROTJ.

And a strong heroine who doesn't fall for a lifeless dipshit or do sod-all in her third movie. :p

Eh, just not that excited. I hold out some hope that all of them (even the PT) get at least a limited 2D run at the same time as I might be interested in another big screen viewing of them all.

I'm really annoyed though that they aren't taking this opportunity to give the Prequels a good flogging in the editing bay. Though there are story issues that can't be fixed without a complete do-over, there are still pacing and overall "tone" issues that I feel could elevate the PT to a solid "B-movie" status.

And I also hold out a tiny hope that part of GL's reasons for this is to raise funds for Eps 7-9, so I feel somewhat compelled to buy a ticket...

I loathe what Lucas has become and will actively bullshit it, but who am I kidding? A year from now when im bored I probably will go see it.
