TV moments that stayed with you...

Seinfeld. The first time I saw the Limo episode. “She’s a Nazi, George!”
.

And then, in the silent tension when the Aryan Nation folks get back in the car George starts whistling a few bars of "If I was a rich man". I thought that was the most brilliant comedy moment ever.

Oh, yeah. This was the ep where I realized that this (then-low rated cult show) was something unique and brilliant.

Neighbours: When Susan found out that Izzy was pregnant with Carl's baby and she screamed and screamed at him in the street with everyone watching, best. meltdown. ever.

Do you mean when Karl left Susan back in 2004 or so? If I recall correctly, when Susan found out about Izzy being pregnant with Karl's baby she didn't tell him for a while because she was so shocked (I think she actually found out just as Izzy was giving birth).

Ah, soaps!

THIS IS IT!!

the revealing, the street filling, the meltdown.

What you're referring to is how Karl later found out because of a date on the back of the ultrasound pic that the baby was not his (supposedly Gus's) and then when Karl and Susan were in London on holiday and ran into Izzie as she was giving birth in an ambulance Izzy said something to Susan while Karl was out of the picture (noble doctor that he is) and she realized the baby really WAS Karl's.

I watched this soap devotedly for years but quit cold turkey when they killed off Bridget which outraged me on just too many levels. Watching that ep I kinda miss it now.

Ah, on reading the details of Izzy's complex personal life on a fansite, I see she was pregnant twice, but had a miscarriage the first time. Hard to keep track of all the goings on in Ramsay Street.

- Adama getting shot by Boomer in nuBSG

- Darla getting turned by Dru in Season 2 of Angel

- Keamy killing Ben's daughter right in front of him in Lost

- Buffy having to kill Angel at the end of Season 2

- Michael killing Libby and Ana Lucia in Season 2 of Lost

- Everyone dies in Buffy season 3's the Gift

Do you mean The Wish? The Gift is in Season 5 and only Buffy dies.

I did mean "The Wish", good catch.

Keeping it sci-fi since this is the SFF forum ;) :

From Star Trek's "Amok Time":
- As Kirk, Spock, McCoy are riding the turbolift to the bridge and Spock asks Kirk to stand with him during the ceremony, he haltingly asks, "I also ask that McCoy stand with me". McCoy replies, "I shall be honored, sir."... no jokes, no cracks, no smart alec remarks.

- the exchange between Spock and T'Pau after he's "killed" Kirk. She expresses sincere regret and tells Spock to "Live long and prosper". "I shall do neither. I have killed my captain... and my friend."

From Babylon 5's "Z'ha'dum"
- G'Kar's epilogue, among the best orations in sci-fi or any other kind of television

From Farscape's "Family Ties"
- Crichton's voice-over of his last letter to his dad

and there are so very many others.

I love how we see Velma in that vid, she was gold!

And yes perhaps after the Gus pg she got pg with Karl for real. When I went looking for this video there were "Susan confronts Karl" vids for multiple years, LOLOL

I'll throw out a few random examples; there are many for me. Assume the Star Treks as given.

Magnum P.I.: Limbo. When Magnum steps into the light. This was initially planned to be the series finale. It sure played like it was going to be. What an incredible end it would have been.
WKRP in Cincinnati: Turkeys Away. "Turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement!"
Land of the Lost: Circle. "We were all killed, weren't we?" This episode was written by Larry Niven and David Gerrold, and was to have stood as the series finale, in case it wasn't renewed.

Okay, "Land of the Lost" is sci-fi, but the other two....... I don't think so. ;)

Seriously folks... I understand how many non-sci-fi awesome moments there are, and alot of the great ones that I've enjoyed have been mentioned: the "Newhart" one for example. But let's get the offerings back into the SFF realms, k?

As long as sci-fi examples are being mentioned I don't really see a problem. But it is up to the mods.

Okay, how about that great cliffhanger on FARSCAPE when Scorpius left Crichton strapped to the surgical table with his brain half-exposed?

(It's funny. I can't come up with any STAR TREK moments because I know the classic episodes so well that I honestly can't remember what it was like to see them for the first time.)

When someone mentioned Angel I immediately thought of this moment that took me completely by surprise. It happened right before the credits so I was able to sit there in shock for a few moments.

Darla is pregnant, the baby has a soul, and since he is a part of her for the time being that soul extends to her. She can't stand the fact that when the baby is born she will no longer have a soul and will revert to her old self. This is too much for her to take, so Darla grabs a stake, and pierces her heart, turning her to dust in front of Angel's eyes. Laying there where Darla was prior is a baby boy. Angel is stunned...and so is the audience.

It was a really powerful moment, and even in reviewing the episode recently it still has the same impact it did when I first saw it.

I remember my first exposure to Star Trek, we had come home from wherever we had gone and turned on the TV, I caught about the last five minutes of The Way To Eden. I can't still remember McCoy telling them that Adam was dead.

"Well his name was Adam."

I remember the first ep. of Doctor Who I ever saw, Robot part I and especially the dandelion scene which made me a fan of the show for life.

I think you should move the thread to the TV forum, it seems that the title "tv moments" prompted a lot of non sci-fi memories.
Yeah, the title may have not been as specific for one particular forum, but given all of the activity I figure we might as well leave it here.

If it's the SFF forum, it really should focus on sci-fi and fantasy entries.

The opening credits for the original OUTER LIMITS.

"We have taken control of your television set."

That scared the hell out of me when I was a kid!

And opening credits for VOYAGER were probably the best of any STAR TREK show. Beautiful visuals and music . . . very evocative.

Until I looked back a few entries upthread from mine and saw this:
Keeping it sci-fi since this is the SFF forum ;) :
I had no idea why you were singling poor little ol' me out. As you know, the majority of the entries upthread since the first reply mentioned examples outside science fiction/fantasy.

I must have started composing my entry before you posted that. My entry did take over an hour to prepare, because for accuracy I decided to dig up a copy of "Circle" and rewatch the whole thing to get the quote right. Plus I spent a few minutes researching the other two references too, just for accuracy. If I had seen your earlier post before I started composing mine, I would have posted differently.

I'm surprised that this hasn't been mentioned yet...

(Spoilers ahead for Battlestar Galactica's final episode.)

The scene in the finale where we see a broken Galactica limp over the face of a rocky moon, then the camera pans up to reveal a planet with the African continent. For me, that was one of the most epic moments in television.

Watch it in the spoiler tag below...

No kidding! That has always been one of the most effective and imho creative openings .

I never have and never will be a VOY fan, but the opening was superbly beautiful. The only nitpick I had with it was the seemingly requisite inclusion of a "ringed planet" and passing through the debris of some astronomic body (as in the previous two Trek series). And yet it was so beautifully done even that nitpick falls by the wayside.

There's an episode of the 90's Fox Spider-Man cartoon where he visits a little girl, I think her name is Tamara but I'm not sure. She gets mixed up in an adventure but it all turns out alright. Anyway at the end of the episode they say goodbye, and Spider-Man reveals his identity to her which is obviously a big moment.

Then he swings away and the camera pans around and shows that she's staying in a place for terminally ill children :(

For me that wasn't memorable because I had long since stopped caring about the series and was just watching it to finish it up because I started it. The Adama shot by Boomer happened when it was still well written and no one realized yet that there was no plan for the show.
