How About A 'Sunset Limited' TV Movie

I thought that perhaps this would be a good way to end TNG or even to do a one-off with a bunch of characters from years past.

If you haven't seen it, Sunset Limited is an excellent HBO movie with only two actors (Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson) in one room. They carry it for an hour and a half and it's still compelling.

Q wants to conduct his final test on humanity. Perhaps Q interviews Trek characters past and present in a room, perhaps as a 20th century psychologist in a setting much like that. He whisks in Picard and the Next Gen cast and other characters in a compelling way with sharp, witty dialogue that moves the story along.

This movie would cost next to nothing to produce and would be profitable right off the bat if put on Sy-Fy and then Blu Ray/DVD.

I've never really been a fan of crossing characters over. I don't see the point. Fans seem to love doing this for some reason but it doesn't interest me personally.

There might be some value in the future in recasting the characters, but they're not iconic like the TOS characters. Probably better to just let new writers invent new characters.

Have to agree. Its Ovah! The recent Berman interview made it clear that The Powers That Were didnt want them back for ST X. They already wanted a new cast even then. Thats one time I am with the Suit-inistas. A decade ago it was time for the Ent E to have a new captain and crew and to move on. To try bringing them back now, all these years later is a dead end I think. Not that certain characters couldnt appear, but ST X was their swan song. They squandered it with a crappy, medicore movie. Thats too bad for that cast, but that will have to be the goodbye for them.

Let 70something Picard alone in whatever retirement he's enjoying. Maybe he will finally let some young Risian gal give him the complete horga'hn experience. He deserves it.

Sure he could appear in a story, but let the Ent E's new Captain and crew save the day from now on, even if the action does somehow involve the old Rascal for one more adventure.

Wrong on all counts; TNG is still iconic, influential and has plenty of fans, as this collection of fan art shows-and all of it is done by younger people. Also, Star Trek Online continues the 24th century epoch into the 25th, so I'd say that it isn't going to be forgotten just yet.

Wrong on all counts; TNG is still iconic, influential and has plenty of fans, as this collection of fan art shows-and all of it is done by younger people. Also, Star Trek Online continues the 24th century epoch into the 25th, so I'd say that it isn't going to be forgotten just yet.

I just think its time for a new crew of the Ent E. Im not opposed to the 24th Cent or even seeing some of the TNG-DS9-Voy people, especially the younger ones. But I think the shows should be more like Law and Order and more like real militaries to the extent that everyone doesnt sit in these same jobs for decades.

Crew rotation is a normal event. A 20+ year command for Picard is long enough. Much too long for me, but at any rate lets have a new captain of the Enterprise. New bridge crew, new cheif engineers, new CMO, etc. I dont see the problem with that. If we ever do see the 2380's or 2390's I would expect to alot of changed careers and lives and alot of new faces. We ought to.

Its not a matter of being "forgotten", only that time passes and new generations take the places of the old. Thats normal and its good. Id like to think that 'ol Jean Luc, having manned the breach for Queen and Country for so many decades could walk off that ship with head high and happy to see the ship abuzz with the energy of a new young captain, much like he was so many years before.

58 yo Michael Dorn should be a bloody Admiral by now. Is he still a commander? With the stellar service record hes had? 62 yo Spiner and Mcfadden? Shes the age De Kelley was for Wrath of Khan. They are getting a little long in the tooth. Now there are plenty of 62 or 72 yo doctors even today. So of course she could still be a doctor, thats not the problem.

Sure the characters could appear, but people should be in different circumstances, roles, and jobs.

I agree with that, and also think that the same should happen with the current Star Trek movie series-after the third movie, Kirk & Co. should be off the Enterprise, and someplace else in Starfleet service. A new crew should take over, and it should be about their adventures 'going boldly where...' etc. I say this because I don't think that Pine & Co. are going to want to do Star Trek movies forever-they will want to move on, and so this would help lessen the blow of that while keeping Star Trek: The Franchise fresh and innovative.

I think that John DeLancie is tired of Q and Star Trek, or so I've gathered.

Second -- Sir Picard Stewart doesn't pee for less than a million bucks, so hardly next to nothing in cost.

Also, he wants to stay in England and work in theater, with only the occasional trip abroad to do a movie. And as mentioned before, he wants to be the Doctor or on Doctor Who anyway.
