Most overrated/underrated Trek episodes

My first impression of ITPM-good story. No techno babble, no light hearted plot lines-just some serious storytelling.

No nice 'everything solved' ending, no rotten one either-just irony and wondering what's going to happen in the next episode.

FBTS- a little hammy? maybe.

But it scored on two main points;

It dared to touch a touchy subject, and Avery's breakdown scene was enough to make Trek history and stirred up debate for years to come.

Instant classic status, but just IMO.

Bride of Chaotica is underrated. I would seriously have been hooked if they made an entire show based on Captain Proton.

Already got em! Buster Crabbe was a god... although he did seem to spend a lot of time trying to strangle people, and Dale's scream gets so annoying I'd be tempted to shoot her myself. It's Doctor Zarkhov's scary leather shorts that really have to seen to be believed.

TNG- The Inner Light.

I read people hail this as greatest of TNG episodes. I just never got into it. The 'relive your life through someone else's thing- there are a lot of those episodes.

It seemed somewhat bland to me. I preferred Tapestry.

The Vulcan mating is dumb (and made for many cringe-worthy/embarrasing episodes later), and Vulcan society equally so. Spock's "JIM!!!!!", smile and almost-hug was *way* OTT.

um, considering a minute before, Spock thought he'd killed his best friend and ended his career, I think the big emotional turnaround makes perfect sense. It's also one of the most iconic moments of the series and shows how much Spock cares for Kirk.


But yeah, the Vulcan mating ritual, especially the challenge rite, is pretty dumb for a supposedly logical, peace-loving society.

But the Vulcans have a violent core and would need a way to vent those emotions.

Thank you! I did not like this episode and I thought I was the only one. People think I'm crazy for it, but I've always found this episode really corny and embarrassing to watch. The Vulcan planet looked lame (really disappointing as I love the Spock character and was excited at the prospect of seeing his homeworld), the Spock and Kirk fight ritual was laughable (both in concept and execution), and I agree that the Vulcan mating stuff was stupid.

One thing I can't agree with you on is the ending. I love Spock's reaction to finding out that Kirk is still alive. It may have been a little over-the-top, but I don't care, it was such a sweet, uplifting moment. Really the only moment in the episode that I enjoyed.

Okay, I got a chuckle out of Spock smashing his computer with his fist and yelling "let me alone!" and the fight music is unforgettably catchy (and cheesy in an endearing way), but those were unintentionally campy pleasures. The end was the only part I seriously appreciated.

I agree, especially with Star Trek V. That movie has a lot of heart, and I love most of it. Nemesis is my least favorite Trek movie, but It's passable entertainment, and isn't the abomination many claim.

I think Plato's Stepchildren is a solid episode that never gets it's due. Those few ultra campy moments ruin this one for some people.I really liked the story of the Platonians, and Alexander was an amazing character.

Agreed. Both films get a lot of bandwagon-jumping "hate", but they were just fine. Trek V in particular had the best representation of the Kirk-Spock-McCoy friendship ever, and had some real standout scenes.

You can dismiss it as bandwagon-jumping if you want, but they were both truly flawed, quite awful films.
