Instrumental songs

In your opinion, what are some of the best instrumental songs out there? I'm not talking about classical/symphonic/orchestral type music or other genres where instrumental music is the norm, but rock/pop/funk/modern/whatever where it's the exception.

To start things off, here's a few of my picks:

Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein

Rush - YYZ (with drum solo)

Beverly Hills Cop theme

Rush has many of them: The Main Monkey Business and La Villa Strangiato are my two favorites.

Porcupine Tree has some good ones as well. Wedding Nails is a particularly good one.

And Joe Satriani has made a decent career churning out cool instrumentals. Folks here might enjoy Borg Sex.

I've been into Souvenir's Young America lately. They're an instrumental rock outfit from Virginia.

They don't have a lot of songs on YouTube, but their MySpace page has a few. I recommend at least listening to "Blood Alone Does Not a Father Make." That's easily one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Some others I like (from various bands):

In your opinion, what are some of the best instrumental songs out there?

Everything Booker T. & the M.G.'s recorded.

ETA These are great videos:

There are a lot of nice short ones I could post, but I'll stick to the longer ones that aren't just one acoustic guitar, or whatever.

Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence Overture
technically it's part of a 42 minute song, but it's great on it's own. If you're a fan of Zelda Ocarina of Time, you'll probably love this.

Liquid Tension Experiment - Paradigm Shift

Arch Enemy - Hybrids of Steel
Instrumental death metal style. They've done a ton of instrumentals, but most of them are quite short, but awesome.

And this last one is only included for the mindf*** factor. It's one of the craziest instrumental songs you'll ever hear, although chances are most won't like it, because it's wacky more than melodic (although there is a ragtime piano solo)

Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein

Some of us may remember Quadrophonic stereo, an early version of what we now call surround sound. As I recall, 8-Track tapes were the most common format for Quad sound. And I can remember so well back around 1976, my uncle taking me outside and sitting in his brand new Chevy Luv pickup as he popped in the Edgar Winter Group Quad-8 They Only Come Out at Night. As the organ swirled around and around the speakers, my six year old mind was blown. I thought "This has to be the future of music!"

The album was called They Only Come Out at Night, my uncle told me, because Winter was albino. I don't know if that's why they called it that, but I've never forgotten it.

Beverly Hills Cop theme

Not to be nitpicky, but this is called "Axel F" and is by Harold Faltermeyer. I know this from many hours trolling VH1 in the 80s.

And off the top of my head, I liked "Lean to the Inside," (below) and "Soviet" by Electronic. "Soviet" does not appear to be on Youtube.

There is also "Oscillate Wildly" by The Smiths.

I guess I just like Johnny Marr a lot.

Orion

and The Call of Ktulu

both by Metallica, when they did not suck...

What, no Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fans about today?

And another I've always enjoyed (even before becoming a Top Gear fan):

Neal Schon (guitarist for Santana, Journey, Bad English, + a ton of solo stuff) has several guitar instrumental albums out. My favorite is Beyond the Thunder it's mellow, and kind of a jazz/rock fusion.
