ANyone know if they still use Commodore as a rank in the JJverse.

They probably deemed the general audience to be too dumb to understand what Commodore means.

The general audience was smart enough to understand what Commodore meant in the Pirates of the Carribean movies.

Or did Abrams and Cohorts fear the general audience would be thinking of pirates if they heard "Commodore Pike?"

Commodore was not a term really used after TOS. Look at Kirk, Captain one minute, Admiral the next, right back down to Captain. I don't think it's a term that really has any meaning anymore to people.

Actually it was Lieutenant to Captain.

Actually, it was cadet-on-academic-suspension-not-cleared-to-be-aboard-the-vessel to Captain.

Look at the transporter's screen readout when they're trying to beam Kirk and Sulu aboard. Kirk is listed as a Lieutenant.

They used both. Uhura is also both cadet and Lieutenant. Still, Kirk was on academic suspension and not cleared to be aboard the vessel. That's quite a leap to Captain of the fucking flagship.

Meh, Pike just overruled that acedemic suspension thing I mean the guy was going to what he probably thought was his death so he could care less how much Starfleet Command would bitch about it plus he's a captain if he followed everything Command told him like a lemming he would be a very good TOS captain.

Actually, despite Kirk being an Admiral, TMP did have at least one Commodore, Commodore Probert mentioned in the Epsilon IX radio chatter.

Commodore sounds cool, so on that basis alone, I think we will see it again, but probably never in a main character.
