Ace box set coming

Whofan

Fleet Captain
Fans are speculating that this release will include the remaining McCoy stories that haven't been announced already: Dragonfire, Happiness Patrol and Greatest Show in the Galaxy.

Source is www.doctorwhonews.net

Dragonfire is a season 24 story and has the corniness of that season, but it's better than the others from that season. I actually felt it had some decent FX, including the 'face-melting' scene. It's got a good musical score too. The sets, on the other hand, aren't that great. There's a lot of homages to horror films-Kane is pretty much Dracula (Vampire lore is something that would be used later, and the "Dragon" is obviously a nod to the Aliens from well, Alien and it's sequels (Although not as well realized). McCoy's performance is sort of all over the place, but he does get one decent scene when he confronts Kane and the Mel leaving scene was kind of good. A bit of trivia-many of the Aliens from the "Star Wars cantina" rip-off scene would appear in the Illustrated version of Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. And you can spot an Argolin from the Leisure Hive as well!

Happiness Patrol is of course the story cited as spoofing British politics in the 80s. It's also the one with the "Kandyman" and the TARDIS painted pink!

Greatest Show I already did a thread on...

Of course I could be wrong and the set could just be the repackaged "Ace trilogy" from the final season (Ghost Light, Curse of Fenric, Survival).

I'd be amazed if it had Greatest Show in it, that's strong enough to get a release on its own. My money's on a Dragonfire/Happiness Patrol double bill, which is okay by me, like both stories :techman:

No idea where this 'three stories' came from, as the 2|Entertain Twitter feed (where the Ace boxset came from) has specifically said there will be two stories in the set...

Ace! Did you know that the writer (too lazy to Google what I can't remember) who created Ace happened to overhear some girls talking like Ace, and thought that was how kids really talked back then? That's where we get her slang.

Best companion. A lot like Rose, I think.

she's certainly the first 'modern' companion - not afraid to get into a fight, has her background explored, loves the Doctor even if she wouldn't admit it, doesn't scream much.

I dunno about loving the Doctor, at least not in the same way that Rose & Martha did. I got the sense that the Doctor & Ace had more of an uncle-y or grandfatherly relationship, probably the closest that any post-Hartnell companion has come to the kind of relationships that he had with Susan & Vicki.

Think were also starting to see a chess-master & pawn relationship as well - the Doctor using the Ace in his scheming.
