To imply that Star Wars did it first and that ST just copied it is ignorant.

It helps a lot if you pretend that three thousand other films produced between Star Wars and Star Trek don't share similarities...with the thousands of films made before Star Wars.

We've gone down this rabbit hole about SW/ST, BTW, because the naysayers have momentarily abandoned the "it sucks/it failed" drumbeat as unsuccessful. If it's not resurrected here shortly, it will be in yet another new topic soon.

wow your reading comprehension is pathetic.

To say Trek 2009 is more similar to Star Wars than other Trek film is NOT the same as saying Star Trek copied Star Wars.

I'm still just so mystified why so many people vilify the one thing that saved the franchise from a long, long moratorium if not complete shelving.

Lately I'm thinking that it has to do with how we perceive our "selves." There's a great deal that each of us will not let go of, because on some level to surrender ideas, memories and so forth represents a dissolution of self.

Except that Trek2009 isn't more similar to Star Wars than any other Star Trek film. That assertion isn't supported by anything than the most superfluous of circumstances, in an attempt to discredit its success. That is ignorant. And there is nothing wrong with my reading comprehension.. you keep saying the same thing over and over again.. Just because you do doesn't make it so. It only makes it more shrill and pointless.

Well there is a tendancy to think of Star Trek as something special and therefore by association we fans are special too. And we can't have the hoi polloi and the great unwashed sullying our little club. :p

So no one on here has ever looked at something that many other people like and said "I don't think it's very good"?

And that has what to do with what I said?

So no one here has ever looked at something that many other people like and said "I don't think it's very good?"

...and said "I don't think it's very good?"

...and said "I DON'T THINK IT'S VERY GOOD!"

...and shrieked "I DON'T THINK IT'S VERY GOOD!!" over and over and over while people sort of look puzzled.

...and started topic after topic on a BBS dedicated to finding as many slightly varying but mind-numbingly repetitious ways of crying "IT'S NOT GOOD! IT'S NOT GOOD! IT'S NOT GOOD!"

...and...and...and...

No, I don't think anyone on here has ever done that. :guffaw:

Oh God, the agony of choice. Lost (In Space) 2 or Star Tr(ansformers)ek?

Frankly I have no preference. I can only sit idly by and watch whatever train wreck unfolds. If you enjoy it, good for you. If not, most likely I agree 100% with you.

And Dennis, love your sig. :D

I can only sit idly by...

Which is actually rather nice. Some others post incessantly on the topic instead.

Fillion rules.

I was pissed too at first. But you know, you have to move on. Sure I don't like it. But why subject myself to discussion of something I hate? Its better for everyone if we all go our separate ways.

And also, I hope he buys the rights to Firefly. And then pretends the movie never happened.

Yes it is.

Only in the mind of the most paranoid fanboys that are compelled to defend Star Trek 2009 against criticisms that don't even exist.

It's more like Star Wars than other movies and that is not all bad, in some ways its a compliment. It is different in style and substance than other Trek.

As previously stated I liked Trek 2009, I just hope the next film has more depth and a better story without the magic of red matter and black hole parallel dimensions to make the plot work.

You've done a great job displaying that. And paranoia.

Clearly there is.

If it's shrill and pointless why are you continuing to read and respond to this thread?

Honestly, you guys are as bad as the Voyager crowd, where every criticism of Janeway is followed by "YOU ARE SEXIST".
