New Macbook Pro launch - Thursday, 24th Feb

The new Macbook Pro's look real nice, can't wait to order the 13" for my wife. Going to get it for her Birthday on March 27th, it will replace her 4+ year old Macbook. I only got my Macbook Pro last year, so I won't be upgrading.

I have to say I'm disappointed. The upgrades are only minor, the Thunderbolt port is a non-starter in my book (it's less bandwidth than HDMI) and they still have the same number of ports, not to mention the much touted battery life is now cut back to 7 hours.

At least the 13" got a much needed boost. Can't believe it's gone from a core2duo to an i7!Very tempting for private use.

Bah. Getting the high-end 15" i7 anyway for work.

:D

Thunderbolt is 2X faster then USB3, 5X faster then FireWire 800 and 10X faster then USB2 all while allowing daisy chaining of 6 devices without a hub and also providing power, including displays. How is that a non starter?

The 7 hour battery life is to better reflect "real" world usage of the machine. It's the same battery as previous generation just Apple being more honest.

I think the overall spec updates are really good, especially the 13" MBP.

I wasn't aware of the daisy-chain option. For some reason the review I read said otherwise.

I really agree with you there. Having the i7 is a very temping offer. Funny, even without the graphics card the new 13" is a shite load more powerful than my current machine!

Thunderbolt (hate the name, preferred Light Peak) won't support power as soon as they go to actual fibre optics (the current implementation is copper only) sometime next year.
