What about scientists who also appear on media such as TV? There are the more famous scientists like Carl Sagan and Brian Cox, who have done much outside of the media, but also science enthusiasts like Patrick Moore and Johnny Ball, and scientists who were more famous in fields away from science, such as Queen's Brian May or comedian/actor Ben Miller.

If they're real scientists (like those you've mentioned) then they are allowed. Fictional scientists aren't.
