All my plans...RUINED!!!

Do you ever have big plans for the day only to find out that one little thing completely ruins them?

For example, today my plan was to build a new cabinet for my kitchen. I have a huge unused space between my counter and the stove, so I was going to build something to both give me more storage and extend the countertop.

Well, my workbench and tools are all locked in the garage, and I can't get in the garage because the remote is broken. The stupid thing won't open manually. My landlord has ordered a new remote for the door, but it hasn't arrived yet.

So now my one big plan for the day is ruined. Balls.

On mine, you have to pull a kind of mounting brackety thing loose from the door if you want to open it manually, but it can be done.

I know what you mean. I plan things out sometimes and then all these little things come along and ruin them or makes me have to cut back on what I was planning to do. I am pretty flexible, but sometimes I want to stick with the plans I already laid out for the day and not bend any.

I haven't quite given up. I am going to give that door one more go. I just don't want to break it.

It mostly bothers me because this was my ONLY plan!

Booooooo!

Yeah--usually it's something like "I'll do some work on my lectures or an article over the weekend," only to find that I haven't copied the file from my work computer to my USB drive...then fearing that I over-wrote the latest iteration on my work computer with the older file from my USB drive. A frantic drive to campus usually solves the problems, but it takes a good hour out of my day.

What kind of garage door doesn't open manually?

The kind designed by idiots.

I remember a few months or more ago I had a plan to enjoy one of the last warm days of 2010 at a park. I was also having a bad week, and didn't want to speak with anyone/se anyone.

I'm trying to, but asshole trying to use the park to troll for dick, make it hard. Finally, it clears out and just when I might find some enjoyment, a police van, towing a port-a-potty, pulls out up to the table behind me, and a bunch of ugly ol' prisoners come out and start having lunch. I don't want to be there with them; ONE officer watching them; he can be over taking in a split second, and my car used as a getaway vehicle, so I roll up my windows and prepare to get out of there, since I got to shit anyway.

The battery is DEAD. Won't start.

I call a friend and ask if he can help, but he'll be at least 20 minutes, as he was about to head out the door. I got to shit.

I go ask the officer if it will be okay to leave my car there and walk to the nearest place to take a shit. He seems hunky dory about being the only cop there with uncuffed prisoners with muscles the size of his head, so what the fuck do I know?

Nearest place with a bathroom is about two miles away, so I walk two miles, about twenty minutes, to go shit. I have to hold it for twenty minutes.

I comes back a little over twenty minutes later, hoping I hadn't missed my friend. I had not. My cellphone battery is beeping, it is about to die -- hope he gets there with no complications.
The prisoners, gone. Thank goodness. My car, still there.

He shows up, jumps me (somehow my battery died; never solved why [he was a certified GM mechanic until retirement], didn't happen again), and now I owe him a favor, so I help him do the work he was going to do. Then I help shop and get a new car battery, come back to his house, and now I do other things for him -- I owed him anyway.

My day of enjoying some sunny weather and keeping to myself, didn't go at all as planned.

Seems like a door that will not open manually is not only inconvenient, but dangerous. As in, a fire hazard. The landlord needs to correct that, IMO.

I imagine the door would open manually if you were already inside, but he is locked out.

Or should it malfunction and shut while you're in there.

This is a million dollar law suit waiting to happen.
Well, this is overly dramatic.

Indeed. It is a detached garage at the other end of my yard. The door is locked. It works fine, but I just don't have the key or a functioning remote.

I know this feeling. Every day I intend to harness the untapped potential of my mind to take over the world, but then I just end up reading or something.

Last Wednesday I was meant to attend a Disability Awareness seminar thing, but when I turned up it had been cancelled, and I was not informed, left me out of pocket and at a loose end for the rest of teh day.

Well, I had planned to help my sister pick out a bookshelf tomorrow, but I got a call cancelling that. I'll have to re-arrange my day. I can be flexible though. I'll probably finish re-arranging the kitchen (terribly exciting I know). It must be spring, as I had an irresistible impulse to clean and re-organise all the cupboards (which happens about once a year funnily enough). Ended up taking out two bin liners worth of unused stuff. And I'm still not done.

Must be something in the air making us active, Rojo, we're finally coming out of hibernation mode. I had planned to do some other things afterwards, but I have decided to collapse from exhaustion now, and commence eating for the rest of the evening. :D

Well, I just moved into a new, way more awesome house than where I was living. However, being as it is a new place to me, there are naturally things I want to change. I've finally got the house unpacked and everything where I need it to be, so now it's project time.

I spent last night dismantling and, um, remantling (?) the staircase so my roommate and I could each get our boxsprings into our bedrooms!
