I love the quotes from Cavill and Snyder. I just can't help but feel a little sorry for Routh.

I think JA is talking about what they said in the article.

Ok I read it on comingsoon.net

I dunno, screwed is a bit much. Routh did the Singer version, it under performed. WB didn't want a sequel and wanted to reboot entirely which thus leads to recasting. It happens. I'm sure Brandon has moved on by now.

Yeah, as much as I like the story SR told, I still feel bad Routh didn't get to do much in his time as Superman except... float around and lift a bunch of stuff.

I was really looking forward to seeing him in a huge throwdown with a supervillain and crashing through brick walls and stuff. I bet he would have looked pretty badass doing it, too.

Well, Routh did do that in Scott Pilgrim vs The World, I guess that counts. but that was because his character had Vegan Powers.

And he probably would have looked a bit older and more "Supermanish" in the sequel too-- at least judging from his appearances on Chuck.

Although I am very willing to give this new guy a chance I too was really looking forward to Routh donning the cape and having another go at an action packed movie. I did like Superman Returns and felt it doesn't deserve a lot of the criticism.

Why would he have to explain it?

And they're trunks not underwear. I'm not familiar with any style of underwear that includes belt loops and a belt.

Actually, as far as I can tell, they're not trunks, either, but part of his pants which just happens to be a different color than his legs. Complicated, I know, but that's the way the suit was depicted in the comics when not worn.

Originally they were trunks. I believe the design was borrowed from circus acrobats.

Acrobats and strongmen, yes. Presumably they wore trunks over their tights so that the shape of certain male anatomical features would not be inappropriately visible.

The thing with a lot of superhero costumes is that artists like to draw them as one pieces or two pieces, depending on the image needed. I've seen Batman's costume hanging in a closet cape, cowl, trunks top, bottom and belt on a single hanger as a once peice. Other times I've seem Batman shirtless ( but with the mask). Even a costume like Spider-Man which usually reads as a single piece ( not counting the mask) has been shown as a two piece.

^Even in the live-action Spider-Man movies, the mask is clearly integrated with the rest of the costume in most shots, but when he needs to pull it off, suddenly it's a separate piece.

Yeah Routh was essentially Electric Superman in "Scott Pilgrim"! He has shown in the roles since that he's a pretty good and funny actor.

Another revelation from the EW interview is that the two finalists were Cavill and Joe Manganiello:

Yeah I thought it was going to be between those two. I'm glad Henry got it.
