Shane Black might write and direct "Iron Man 3"

^ True, but they're hiring people of the calibre of Whedon, Favreau (circa IM1) and Joe Johnston, not Uwe Boll or Paul Thomas Anderson. Good balance, IMHO.
But their relationship with Favreau has already soured and been severed. It's early days, so the jury is still out on whether that's going to become a pattern.

Their handling hasn't been perfect (or with Norton for that matter), but as you say, the jury's out.

TheWrap talked to Shane Black about this story and Black said the following:

"Nothing has been decided yet," Black told TheWrap on Thursday. "I've taken a few meetings and I'll probably take a few more before Marvel decides."

If this happens, I'd be behind this one hundred percent. He'd bring us something better than Justin Thoreux's weak and flawed script.

This pleases me. :techman:

I wonder if Marvel approached Black on their own, or if Downey recommended him to them, given their work together on Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.

It's confirmed now! I wouldn't be surprised if it was RDJ suggested Black to them. Downey is also the person who suggested Justin Throeaux write the Iron Man 2 script based on his experience with him on "Tropic Thunder". Methinks though most of the genius behind that film was squarely on Ben Stiller's shoulders. This has me happy.

Last Action Hero is an incredibly fun and creative movie.

A lot of the movie's silliness inside the "movie world" is meant to be a parody of your typical "Arnold action movie", which it feels like people just ignore. One time I saw someone complaining about how unrealistic (relatively speaking) some of fictional Arnold's action stunts were. Well yeah, that's the point, everything is over-the-top in the fictional Arnold.

That's great news. I love the Lethal Weapon movies and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was great!

Yeah, I love that movie too for reasons you point out.

No, I think that's obvious. It's just that some of the slapstick doesn't work and isn't funny (in my opinion of course). It's a problem of execution rather than concept. The original script had the same framework, but was more subtle and clever in the element of parody within the movie world.
