I suggested this as a kind of tongue in cheek thing in a different thread...but if the Trek writer's wanted to include a gay character and subvert every single trope that would have cropped up, why not make Tuvok gay?

IMHO it would have been the best way to include a gay Trek character in the show (the novels do it well), by just making it so understated and not at all an issue. When mention is made of Tuvok's wife, just subsitute the word wife for husband...the character is gay and Trek once again shows that if you want to push the boundaries, you do it by just including the character and not drawing attention to them.

but honestly, there's no reason that Tim could have "played gay" better or worse than the rest of the cast. Any actor could have done a fine job because they're all professionals except Wang.

There were gay characters al over DS9, so Voyager just really let the side down.

If the families considerations are political than anything to do with procreation (Not that the staff (handmaidens?) couldn't help out making the next generation.) there's no reason that same sex couples couldn't be paired at birth?

According to Roddenberry, everyone in the Federation is bisexual so this completely tracks.

There a Gay Vulcan in Peter David's New Frontier Books. I believe he just ignores pon far since David is suggesting that it's all about babies more so than focussing the katra's chi.

I think it would be more of a issue if it was Tom Paris.
The womanizer trying to hide his gay affections.
It would be interesting how the Paris/ Kim buddy dynamic is explored, especially if Kim remains straight. Can a straight man & gay man still remain best friends without conflict.
The uptight & proper Vulcan seems like too much of a gay stereotype to me.
Plus, he was too much of a loner to really explore the topic.

I think it's a subject DS9 missed when exploring how the religious Kira deals with the sexually permiscous and often bi-sexual Jadzia Dax as a friend.

Voyager chose not to have a gay character just wander in and wander out. It's not that we want or need or demand that there should have been or there might have been a gay character, we just want to know why the notion of a gay character was forbidden.

It was a stretch of seven years back when this stuff could have been a token or stunt and still be relevant.

They had Susanna Thompson on set 6 or 7 times and she probably still smelt a little like Terry Farrel from their 15 and half takes of slobbering all over each other on DS9, if nothing else "girl on girl" is an easy inside track for an emmy nomination.

I don't get why Jadzia Dax doesn't quailify?

Worf was jealous of her being with another women.
Why would he think that of her if he didn't suspect her of swinging that way?

Because Jadzia had been there before and Worf is an idiot for not trusting her(This was well before they were married.). It doesn't matter if even you're positive she is cheating on you because she's fucking some one in front of you, you always treat the lady with respect believing that she has honor and has your best interests close to heart because it's your fault you can't make her happy by yourself.

"Homo" is usually a derogatory term against homosexuals.
Sorry, I'm going to continue to use "gay" as the accepted terminology within the gay community.
