More Trek Novel Reprints!

They also don't have Assignment: Eternity. I was hoping to get that for my Nook to go along with the Kahn trilogy, but it's not available from the B&N site. It might be out for other readers though, I've never checked.

I prefer reading paperback books.I was lucky to find a used copy of Assignment eternity a few months ago.I really liked Gary seven and Roberta Lincoln in that novel dealing with events in the 23 century and having Kirk the Romulans and the book turned out to have a great story.

All Star Trek novels should be available. I'm sure there are many new fans who would like to read some of the masterpieces which were published when the series were aired.

Publishers aren't charities. They do have to answer to the laws of "supply and demand" and make sufficient profits and dividends for their shareholders. If a book didn't go to a second printing when it first came out, it's very hard to convince the chief editor (and marketing manager) that it's worth the gamble of doing a new reprint decades later.

Thanks!

Greg, do you have any idea why A:E isn't in E-book form? I know you don't have anything to do with the release of ebooks, but I thought you might know if something about the story kept it from being released in electronic form.

I am not aware of any special issue that might keep it off the list, but I've never talked to it about anyone.

Honestly, I didn't knowit wasn't available until this thread.

I seem to recall that Marco once said the unavailability of a few ST titles in eBook had to do with the original electronic files not being compatible with the modern program used to convert to eBook format. This requires that the old manuscripts be retyped and reproofed, which requires additional budget, and so can only be done as $$$$$ allowed. Other Pocket non-ST titles would be in this slush pile, too. The law of supply and demand determines the order these items can be attended to.

Ohmigod. This may be my fault. I think I'm the last author on Earth who is still submitting his books in WordPerfect . . . .

When I switched from my Amiga to a PowerMac, I had a friend convert some WordPerfect ST fanzine files into Mac compatible text, but it stripped out all formatting. I never did get back to them, and a whole fanzine, almost ready to publish, still sits as raw text on a very old Mac from the 90s.

I use WordPerfect, but I save my files in .rtf format before submitting them. It occasionally leads to problems when unusual ASCII characters don't translate across formats. I know it'd probably be simpler just to switch to using Word full-time, but I'm simply more used to WP's commands and there are things about it I like better. (For one thing, no talking paper clip giving unsolicited advice.)

Hey, I'm not the only one!

The talking paper clip has been gone for years.

Maybe a helpful link for anyone?

I used to love WordPerfect--learned to type on 3.0 (blue screen! macros!). What's the best nowadays? I dunno. I'm not a huge fan of Word (Clippy aside). I've actually found that OpenOffice isn't altogether too bad--but as Word is kind of the standard for businesses, I am stuck with it at work. All in all, I miss the days when word processing programs didn't have all the bells and whistles that they do now.

As for novel reprints, I think a trip to pretty much any used bookstore or flea market will net you some old, out-of-print ST books. I remember really enjoying a story about Kirk being back in time and all messed up because of a mind-sifter...was that New Voyages? Can't remember. Curse this beer.
