Star Trek DC Comics

Hello everyone,

I started a blog to discuss the old DC comics Star Trek series from 84 and 89. I'm going through the series issue by issue and giving summaries and analysis-just a fun way to share my love of the comics with others. I'd sure enjoy having some comments and conversations about them. The link is http://dctrekcomic.blogspot.com

Hope to see ya there.

Charles.

Fantastic! Bookmarked - can't wait to read more.:techman:

I absolutely loved the DC run, particularly the late first series, and early second series stuff.

I remember when the letters page at the end was my only source of up to date Trek information...before the internet, kids.

It's an ongoing quest to complete my DC Trek collection - I've got about 70% of both runs, so I'll read along with your posts where I can.

Look forward to the trip down memory lane :)

Thanks for the kind words, Botany Bay! As you probably noticed I've just worked my way through a couple of issues. I'm writing about issue 3 right now but its already a lot of fun re-reading them and writing about them. When I get done with the DC comics I may try to do the Gold Key, Marvel, Malibu, and IDW comics.

I had a few of the Gold Key Trek comics when I was a kid but I don't remember them being too worried about continuity with the series or even having the characters act much like themselves at times. Its been a loong while so I'd have to check that out again. Might be fun.

Then that's perhaps where we first met. ;)

I used to do a series of articles for our local club newsletter (circ. eventually about 700) on the Marvel, DC and LA Times ST comics. I'll try to dig them up.

Possibly! I discovered your Data magazine in the old Galaxy Bookshop near Hyde Park whilst looking for Star Trek comics in that era, loved it and begged my parents for a subscription. Data and the letters page of DC comics : essential reading for learning the latest in all things Trek in 1988

I had noticed your letters were a favourite of the DC editors

Anyone else get a letter published?

Great. :techman:

I had one letter published in the Modala Imperative series. It was the one and only letter to a comic book I'd ever written. I was pretty excited as I had written the letter never really expecting it to be published.

I'm really hoping that we get a new comic series based on the new Star Trek movie. I've enjoyed most of the IDW stuff-especially the recent Khan Ruling In Hell miniseries! I miss having a continuing Star Trek title to read. So, what do we call this new timeline anyways? If Classic Trek is Prime Trek then this new Trek is....?

Hey Sulfur, thanks for the link to Siskoid's Blog of Geekery. I've been having a good time reading the Star Trek stuff.

My hit rate was pretty high, but I had a secret strategy. Knowing that the editors would enjoy a "since you mentioned it..." type moment to make exciting announcements, I would keep my ears (and antennae) to the ground for upcoming comics or general ST news and often embed a personal hope for some future possibility in the body of my letter, giving the editor the chance to make an exciting announcement in his or her public reply to me. :bolian:

Cool, a few names to look out for. :)

I remember some months they didn't publish any letters.

When it happened, I would be crushed

Yeah, agreed. I really enjoyed my monthly "chat" with Bob Greenberger (and later Mike McAvennie, the amazing Kim Yale, who tragically passed away, Alan Gold and Margaret Clark).

On a trip to New York in January 1984, while delivering some Aussie Batman newsletters to Phyllis Hume's office at DC Comics (and finally seeing the famous Superman mannequin crashing through the phony brick wall in their foyer), I casually asked a receptionist if Bob was available - and I got to interview him (and even traveled up in the elevator with comics columnist and future ST novelist, Andy Mangels - his name was on his art portfolio).

I'd like to read these, particularly the LA Times strip articles.

Anybody get the Star Trek Comic Book Collection on DVD? I snapped it up when it first came out. I wish Marvel would do that with its classic Star Wars run.
