Verizon iPhone 4

Anyone getting the iPhone on Verizon? If so, are you an existing Verizon customer or are you jumping ship from another carrier?

Guess not.

I got the AT&T iPhone 4, and it's pretty neat. I suspect that I'm not really tapping into it fully.

Anyone want to suggest some essential apps? From the Sci Tech angle, I've found two that I like:

"Moon" gives you the phases and rise/set data on the moon.

"Space Junk" is basically a starchart app--it tells you what you're looking at. I've found it very helpful in confirming that what I thought was Jupiter really is Jupiter. I'm dabbling in backyard (well, frontyard) astronomy a bit with a pair of Celestron binoculars, and it's a good supplement to the star charts I've got in book form.

I very well may in the near future. My contract with AT&T is up in a few weeks. I just installed OSX Leopard on one of my Thinkpads so I don't have to poison one of my main computers with iTunes.

I currently have an old iPhone 3G with AT&T. My contract is up and I'm free to do whatever I want, but I am in no hurry to upgrade my phone or switch carriers. I'm waiting for the iPhone 5 (or whatever they're going to call it) to be released this summer. I'm hoping that the two carriers, AT&T and Verizon, will start price wars to try to win over customers.

I'm also curious to see how the two networks perform and what the differences are. I'm hearing arguments that Verizon has a more reliable signal and fewer dropped calls, but AT&T has a faster data network and also lets you use the web while you talk on the phone (Verizon doesn't).

I would have gotten one right away if it had come out a couple years ago. Now I'm not sure. I have awhile left before I can get my upgrade and I don't want to spend a lot of money because I'm doing okay with my current simple phone. I also don't keep on top of this stuff and I don't know when new phones are coming out or what features they have, so I would worry that I'd be buying one at the wrong time.

Its not that Verizon doesn't let you, its that the CDMA technology, which is the Verizon network versus the AT&T GSM, is not capable of simultaneous voice and data.

Indeed. I was merely pointing out that the different networks seem to have various strengths and weaknesses when compared to one another. I, for one, have never had to use the web while talking on the phone, so that disadvantage with Verizon wouldn't necessarily bother me. However, it's been reported that Verizon's data speed is slower, and that would matter. As a consumer, one has to weigh all of the options and decide which network is best for them. Right now, I'm playing a game of "wait and see" to determine which carrier will end up giving me the most bang for my buck when it comes time to upgrade.
