Okay, so I really enjoyed all of the UGC missions. It was the damn pathing that bugged me, but that's not the fault of the creators.

Well, I've downloaded the demo. (Just got a computer than can handle the game.) And I'm fairly impressed. I'm not sure I want to bite the bullet just yet. I thought Stranded in Space was ok for a first mission, but I just read that it has been remastered. Does that mean the next couple missions in the game have less to do?

Not at all. They just don't have the class-specific objectives or the cutscenes, is all.

Ah. Well, I think I'll mess around with the demo a few more days before I make a decision. I may only have good internet for the next 3 months anyway.

Here's the trailer for Cloaked Intentions, the featured missions series that kicks off tomorrow!

mind you according to the forum the servers going to be down soon
here's what they say.

The Holodeck Shard will be coming down for emergency maintenance at 12:45pm Pacific.

Expected downtime is 1 hour while the Network Engineers evaluate the performance issue that started shortly after the launch of the new Featured Episode series "cloaked intentions".

We are commited to resolving this issue today and hope to have the feature episode as well as the game back up and running as soon as possible.

when I was at star base 39 or what ever it was called got there a good hour before the mission and did the diplomatic one while waiting the admirals office was pretty packed.
Quite funny apart from those ice grenade thingys

It's the perfect storm, sadly. It's a Saturday, there are a lot of people coming back for the anniversary, and there's the new mission. It's a shame Cryptic still hasn't gotten a handle on the demand issues a year after launching.

You know, I can imagine what it's liek for them... when my company finally was able to sell the iPhone last year, we had a huge stock but we sold out in hours.... people got down hard on us. Sometimes you can be really well pepared but demand still exceeds the wildest expectations.
Everyone can feel sorry for his 2 hour playtime interrupted, but imagine the red alerts cryptic's emppoyees have to go through now...
And if I can feel sympathetic, everyone can... I was right at the boss fight of the Cure when my team got booted.

You'd have thought the people at Cryptic would have been prepared for that...

True, but on the brightside this totally disproves Bishop76's insistence that STO doesn't have that many subscribers.

A lot of people, including myself, took a break (which as a lifer there's no pressure to log hours just to get my money's worth) soon after season 2. Since Season 3 it's been building back up and the game has been the busiest I've ever seen it during the anniversary.

I bought the game about a month after the end of the Beta period, FYI.
