would you go into space?

Let said NASA come out and said we going to sent a private citizen into space! would you try to be that person or would you said no way! 25 year after the death of Christa Mcauliffe would you do it:)

I'm a huge fan of space exploration, but I think the current MSF program is pitifully wasteful.

If there were a great and noble reason for me to go into space I would totally do it. With what I know of NASA's saftey record and how they rank money vs man, no, I would not risk my life on a 7-day NASA joyride.

I know some private citizens that I'd like to send into space -- preferably never to return.

Personally, yes, but only if I could do something useful other than gawping, upchucking, or just getting in the way.

Maybe if they colonized the moon or something and I was going to move there. Short of that? Meh.

what would I be DOING in space? if it's a week of sleeping in a 4x8 module in zero-g while trying to stay out of the important scientists way? forget it

I'd let everybody sleep in their modules while I recreated the Sistine Chapel ceiling with astronaut food.

If I were being really honest I'd have to admit that given are current methods of sending people in to space there is a good chance I wouldn't survive the trip.

I'm sorry, did you say something? I couldn't get my eyes to glance away from your avatar.

25 years ago I'd have said YES in a heart beat. But I am older, fake hip (which is not a problem, but who knows) and have decided the time has probably passed. :(

Initially, the idea sounds really fun. But the more I think about the details, the less appealing it becomes. How long would I be in space? A day or two? A week? As others have already asked - what would I be doing? Space might get really boring after a while if I wasn't occupied well enough. There's also the logistics surrounding sleeping, using the restroom, personal hygiene, and eating that make me nervous.

Nope, I'd be too wimpy to risk my life for a joyride, as cool as it may be. It would be a great experience, but I wouldn't feel that I would gain anything from it to negate the risk.

If it was a free trip, I'd do it, once the technology used was sufficiently proven, and if there were some comfy living arrangements up there. Current tech? Almost certainly not.

Absolutely! But as others have said, I would want to be involved in a meaningful project. As so many scientists have complained, the ISS has been a near-zero in true science advancement and the cost has been outrageous. EVA work would be my choice since I have no fear of heights or confinement. Stick my scrawny ass in that suit and shove me out the airlock. I'll get 'er done.

As others have said above, if given the current level of technology I'd have to pass cause the idea of getting about in zero-g for almost everything, and then even the launch up there is enough to put me off just now. Maybe once/if we ever get some sort of anti-gravity and a better means of lauching shuttles into orbit and even have normal food up there then I'd be there in heartbeat.
